My 575 came with Tubi back boxes (the 575 versions), with the OEM zones boxed up, now in my garage.

I thought the OEM sound was much too quiet and have been happy with the Tubis. But:

my wife, who is a musician, can't stand what she calls the drone at idle. She loves a loud exhaust if it's correctly tuned - including many supercars - but apparently it's very unpleasant at idle.

While I rather like it, it's true that that it's much louder at idle than, say, when moving slowly through traffic. And when accelerating hard, I think it sounds very good, but perhaps a bit too much "exhaust" and too little "V12", if that makes sense.

ideal world I would get a Fabio exhaust but I can't justify that on a car I drive a few times a year.

what steps does anyone recommend that are a) inexpensive b) not drastic (it would be out of character sounding like an old F1 car) c) sound great but not too loud and d) safe for the mechanicals? X pipe delete?

not sure why tubi back boxes are so loud at idle but there you are.

    many thanks.

Darius- What is your assembly number and do your tubis have bypass valves? The valves really quiet the exhaust at idle.

    Hi Taz
I don't have the AN on me now as I am travelling, but I did once check and compare against the number you said marked the revised exhaust, and it was just before.

Hmm, bypass valves. I have no idea but they are certainly not quiet at idle. So I guess no.

I am very happy with it all but my wife is not, just with the noise at idle.

if I switched to OEM back boxes and did the X pipe delete, what would that sound like by comparison?

Graham, I know what you mean but a standard 575 is just speaking too softly for me, for a V12 Ferrari. Equally I don't want to be a boy racer.

Darius- Straight center pipes and OEM early mufflers would sound quite nice at WOT. Idle would be quiet with valves closed. There might be slight resonance at around 2500 rpm. Bothers some, some not.

    Thanks Taz.
If I put in straight centre pipes and kept the Tubi back boxes would that be crazily loud?
I guess it would make idle even louder, right?
As you can tell I am not keen to give up the Tubis but my wife comes first!

Darius- Affirmative, would wake the dead and idle would be louder.

You could probably find a set of bypass valves and have them welded into your Tubi tailpipes. Tubi also makes sets with bypass valves. Yours has all the vacuum parts and hoses for the valves.

I have the Tubi's and X pipe delete. Made a world of difference for me when I added the X pipe from Braden. The Tubi's by themselves for me were too quite.
Mind you I am not into ridiculous loud sounds such as some of the Lambo's. But this combinations is an incredible sound. I love going to coffee early on weekend, and as I fire up the car I always say to myself "Time to wake up the neighbors".

On a side note this is my mistress, so if my wife doesn't like it, tough.

I personally haven't heard a single muffler setup on a 550/575 that I've liked. That's why I skipped all that trial and error and went straight to Fabio's setup.

Plus on Fabio’s I LOVE having a remote control to open close.

This video shows open and then he hits the button for closed.

You should get the headers too...will take it to the next level. But those mufflers alone sound better than any of the other tubi/capristo/etc. that I've heard on the maranellos. Almost all of them have a bassy drone which is insanely annoying in my opinion. Also doesn't really sound like a Ferrari should.

If I hadn't found Fabio, I would've sold my Maranello by now. It's how the car should have left the factory.

When I bought it the car passed CA smog so I was a good boy and registered it here and paid the taxes. If at some point it won’t pass then I’ll move the car out of state and definitely get the headers. @niftyfivefifty and his videos are amazing.

My 575M came with a completely stock exhaust including the center muffler and it was way too quiet. First thing I added was the Tubi rear mufflers (Rumore version at that) - still too quiet. Then I changed to the straight center pipes. Now it is certainly "too loud" but I like it! Had I installed the straight center pipes first, that might have been just right. Also at normal highway speeds there is no objectionable resonance. Despite being a little too loud, I wont take the Tubi's off because they are gorgeous and so much lighter than the stock mufflers.

It's true that the Tubi back boxes have a bassy note. I don't mind it but it's also true that it's not very Ferrari. It is loud though.

Its also true about the weight of the OEM mufflers, I couldn't believe it when I carried them to the storage shelf. Such a lot of weight to be hanging out behind the rear axle. I estimated 14kg each.

Maybe I'll try the straight centre pipes. How much should they be to buy and install? Don't want to spend too much if I might reverse it after one drive!

If you change the unequal length of the exhaust it will kill the drone and choppy idle (hence the suggestion for the 6-1 headers by so many people).

I was surprised that my car with an equal length exhaust, oversized piping diameter, center muffler and rear muffler delete is quieter at idle a than cars with factory center muffler & Tubi rear mufflers.
