250 GT SWB Berlinetta 2939GT is a Comp./61 (sometimes called SEFAC Hot Rod) version of the car and I was wondering if it, and all examples of the Comp./61, should have the cold ram air pan surrounding the Webers? I read today that the later examples were less extreme than the earlier ones.

Pic of the engine bay of 2939GT taken in poor light from Cavalleria 250 GT SWB book with phone camera.

Steve: In my extensive research on the 1961 Comp Berlinettas, I found that ALL the cars were originally built with trays to seal the carburetors to the hood. All cars, except one (2455) were built with 46 DCF 3 carburetors. I suspect the Build Sheets for 2455, which indicates 40 DCL 6 carbs, are a typing error and it also had the 46 mm carbs. A 40 DCL 6 is just not enough carburetor to feed a Tipo 168/61 engine. By the way, some Build Sheets and many books also show 46 DCL carburetors; another typo, this model Weber carburetor does not exist.

I knew you would know, Dyke. Thanks for your reply. :) Can you see which Webers 2939GT has from the pic above?

Steve: just a guess, but by the appearance of the velocity stacks, I would speculate that they are 46's.

Thank you again, Dyke and Boudewijn for the pictures. I've just bought the Cavalleria book on the 250 GT SWB and the colour photography of 2939GT is superb, and the car looks stunning. However, the fact that the pictures are of a car without its cold ram air pan is a disappointment. I wonder if they took it off to show the engine and Webers off better? Surely not.

Does 2939GT have the engine from 2445GT? See tomgt's post 24 here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vintage-thru-365-gtc4-sponsored-redline-restorations/11241-drogo-cars-2819-2053-2735-2445-a-2.html

Please correct me if I am in error. If the build sheet is available see the line on the Foglio Montaggio Motore page.

    Carburatore tipo- Weber 36 DCL 3 No.-3

    Presa d' aria - trombette 128C/18688 e vasca

This came from the build sheet for a LWB California Spyder and the text in question is
    e vasca.

    Trombette designating the stacks.

Would the cold ram air pan be indicated on the build sheet? Did you actually find out if 2939GT has the engine from 2445GT?

The cold air pan is not normally noted on the Build Sheets.
