does anyone know/think it would be possible to do something like lease a ferrari for short term. I think something like a 6 month lease 1000 - 1500 per month,.......is there anything like that available, I think it'd be a cool way to try out different cars.

My friend was looking at leasing a 550. Payments were in the $2,000 range for 60 months. So unless the car has a very, very low value, I don't know of anyone that would lease a car for that short term and in that price range. I'm assuming you don't want to put any money down?

Yeah, I was just thinking it'd be a cool way to try out a few different cars. or if you travel extensively and only need a vehicle for a few months/half a year. It's a good idea, but I don't know anyone who's doing it. Does anyone remember, there was some "company" out there that did something like this. It was called something like "Dream Car Club" or whatever. You basically paid 15 Grand up front, then for 1 year you could "order" a new car for 1 month at a time........they had a lot of exotics available, not all of htem of course, but a decent inventory. I never really checked them out, I don't even know if it was legit................anyone remember this?

You might want to think about joining one of those Exotic Car Clubs. Each is structured differently, but the basic premise is that they allow you to pay a fee to use high-end exotic cars on a rotated basis.

Doesn't that premise include YOU having a car to share?

Negative - you don't share your cars. You join a club that owns all the cars themselves, and then charges you to "borrow" them for a specified period of time.

My partners and I have created something you might be interested in. We recently obtained our dealers license in Florida and will be officially launching the business in the next few weeks. rpmexotics.com is our current site... it is very low tech right now but explains the concept. The site will be upgraded in the next few weeks. PM if you are intested. I have already made contact with some fellow Fchatters and they are very interested in the concept. It is by far the most cost effective way of driving exotic cars all the way from acquisition costs to tax benefits of being a member.

I went and checked out your website. With all due respect intended, how due you have the "Cleint Testimonials" when you just said you will be launching the business "in the next few weeks". Just curious.

Those are all scenarios that each of the partners have gone through. We are all "clients" in that regard since have utilized the dealership to our benefit. There is nothing new about what we are doing. It is just a way to minimize your loss if you like to flip cars frequently as many of us do.

BTW the "launch" is when we expect our ad to hit Dupont Registry in the middle of June. We are still working with our staff to try and get them up to speed. PM if you want and I'll give you my personal cell number. I'll be glad to fully explain the model.

I occaisonally see ads in various newpaper classified sections, on websites, and in magazines for services that buy out leases from the cash strapped lessees of high end cars. These same services will find folks who will buy out or take over the remaining lease (when this is permitted by the lessor). I have seen a few specific ads (mostly in large city daily newpaper print classified sections) where the remaining term of the lease was quite short. Hence, it should be possible to find a Ferrari lessee who needs out of his lease, eventhough the lease only has six or nine months left to run. In practice, the supply of such cars must be fairly limited, and would almost certainly fail to make a reasonable source of a DIY Ferrari of the season club.

If you have substantial equity in your house, you might consider obtaining a Home Equity Line of Credit, which you could use to purchase a (suitably depreciated and reasonably liquid) F-car. When you are sick of it, you can sell it or trade it for another car. As long as you pick cars that have hit the bottom of their depreciation curve, you can sell or trade them with a reasonable degree of liquidity, and you are savvy enough to avoid getting savagely screwed every time you deal on a car, you should be able to drive the car of your choice for as long as you want and only pay for maintenance, insurace, and interest on the capital value of the cars you drive. As a bonus, real interest rates are still almost inexplicably low (oops, China just bought a titanic shipload of our T-note, I guess it isn't exactly inexplicable).

PS Hessian is only marginally sane, his semi-clever pet schemes are essentially guarenteed to fail in practice, and have never resulted in a peer reviewed scientific publication, or a Ferrari in Hessian's garage.

I hope you are not being defensive because I did not mean it that way. That sounds like a neat idea. That question really was with respect. I was just curious. Your explanation makes sense. I think it is a good idea and I would actually like to talk to you so you can explain how it works, I might be interested in becoming a client. Thanks

No, I'm fine with the questions. I hope I can answer them adequately. You did bring up a valid point regarding the launch. I took no offense at all. We are not a leasing company nor are we a rental car company. We are a fully licensed and bonded dealership with a different twist. Our hope is to one day have enough members in the network with enough variety of cars that we can do transactions amongst ourselves therefore avoiding the wholesale (auction) step of the equation except to bring new vehicles into the club. Each person is fully responsible for their own car during their time of ownership or during their lease so if you beat on your car.... you will get hurt when it comes time to get out. We encourage leasing because of the tax advantages. RPM is not for everyone. If you want to acquire a less expensive car, the costs of membership may not outweigh the savings we can provide you. Now... on more expensive cars especially if you live in a state with a high sales tax.. the savings can be huge.
