Can anyone recommend a shop or mechanic in North Eastern NJ or Southern NY (Nanuet area) that they have had a good experience with?
I have a 1959 3500gt with minor engine issues and have had not had any luck finding a reputable shop in the area.

Vinny Latino- the best! His shop is:
    Auto-Elite in Tenafly, NJ
    201-266-8885

He works on Ferrari/Lambo/Maserati/Lancia/Alfa/Fiat- everything from vintage to modern- knows his stuff, will not rip you off and is reasonable on pricing, and a great guy to boot. I've gone there for 3 years now, and have seen him working on everything from a Lusso, 275GTB to high mileage 308s to 550 Barchetta's to 430s, and several older Maserati's I couldn't identify as I'm not as up on the models! He rebuilt the motors on dinos and an f-chatter's Lancia Stratos, and I've seen a nice boxer or two in there.

Your car looks beautiful by the way- please bring it buy to one of the Chatham area C&C events!!!

Try Classic Coach in Elizabeth. Simply pay them a visit and check out their shop. Then decide.

Sorry- I meant to say he rebuilt a couple of dino motors for fellow f-chatters (and the Lancia) recently... I'm sure he's done work on many other f-chatter's cars as well, but just mentioned those since I saw the end result in person!

Agree about Classic Coach, but only challenge with them they are unrealistically slow in getting work done.

Classic does take their time in doing their work... however I must say I have seen them do some of the best paint jobs I have ever seen on a car. I have frequented the shop many times and have seen up to 4 F40s at a given time as well as Maseratis MC12, Enzos, Mclaren F1 gtr, even some Ferraris that are 1 of 1.

Will Degroot out in Frenchtown, NJ, near the Delaware River, has an amazing shop, and does great work. He does a lot of old, vintage cars, and really knows his stuff. He has a full machine shop on premises, and a clean room for rebuilding engines. Very impressive. It's a bit of a haul from the NYC area, but well worth the trip.

Classic Coach also has a great shop, and can do anything, from old to new, but at this time of year, a major project could get side-lined, as they are getting lots of cars ready to get back on the road for their regular customers, and prepping track cars as well. Just a thought to keep in mind. Extremely high quality work, at a price, and also likely to be there for a while.
