I'm likely taking Nov, Dec and part of Jan off work. I'd like to drive up and down the Southeast coast visiting friends/family. Anyone recommend a good auto hauler for getting the car out and back?
I've called around a couple places and so far the cheapest I have found would be $3k round trip. Is this about as good as I can do from Denver to Ga/Sc/Al or wherever?

I've used PlyCar twice now in about a year and they have been nothing short of professional, timely, and communicative along the way. They use the big covered trucks with flat ramps...I pushed my car on this last time. I'm sure there are others just as good, but I wanted to give them a thumbs up for my experiences.

I used Horseless Carriage this summer to go from Philadelphia to Monterey and back. I had a perfect experience with them, on time, knowledgeable drivers and good communications. Plus, they give a FCA discount

I am in the process of having a car shipped this week from Fl. to NY. I narrowed it down to Reliable Transport and Intercity Transport. I finally went with Intercity and will see how they do. They were easy to talk to and gave me a confidence level and what topped it off was Jay Leno uses them for his cars. All they have is enclosed air ride trucks and I was told they inspect and cover the cars before they load them. We'll see how it works out.

$3K seems high. I would expect about $1,000 each way assuming covered transport.

I have used Intercity on two occasions between Cleveland and San Diego. Great service, quick transit time, nothing but good things to say about them. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call, they do have FCA discounts, though I think if you mention you heard about discounts here you'll get it whether you are a member or not. Not sure they will come in under your lowest price though.

In June shipped my 328 from Texas to Vermont (about 1,700 miles). Enclosed hauler door to door for $2,100. Number 1 Auto Transport....extremely professional with excellent communication. I was very impressed.

My shipments from Denver to/from the E coast have cost about $1k each way for lowest bid uncovered transport. Certainly not class A service but car arrived in good condition.

No need to be a FCA member, Intercity also gives a FerrariChat discount. I used Intercity last month for delivery of a car from North Carolina to Massachusetts, and could not be more pleased with the professional service provided. The price quoted, with the discount, was the lowest of any of the major carriers. The car was both picked up and delivered exactly to the minute promised. I received daily (sometimes twice daily) calls from the driver starting several days before pickup to the day of delivery. The car arrived totally covered in an 85 foot enclosed trailer. The driver was expert in vehicle inspections, and he pointed out a few issues that the normal naked eye would have never found (even escaped the eyes of the PPI inspector, the service manager of an exotic dealership). The tip was initially flatly refused, so I had to practically shove it into his pocket. Now the best part: a few days after delivery I received a hand-written thank-you letter from the driver.

I called many if not all of the suggested carriers listed above. One of the carriers who didn't serve Colorado suggested the website below. One link for quotes and the other is the home page. I just sent in a quote request. I'll share the results.

I am trying to ship a car from Atlanta to Los Angeles. I'm being told by the dealer that he's having a hard time booking an enclosed transport for the last four days. Is that common?

I have used Reliable and Intercity multiple times with excellent results with each company... My understanding is when you deal with a company directly you can book quickly, Many dealers will use a broker that will try to find a shipper from a vast number of shippers and you don't know who you are getting or what their reputation is.

If you go to one of the name shippers you can expect to wait anywhere from 2-8 weeks before they can pick up your car. It depends on when there is a truck in your area and if it has an open slot. If you go through a broker you will get a lot of calls but you don't know what kind of truck you'll get and their history. Don't expect this to work overnight.

The best by far I have found is Montway. They gave me a ROUND TRIP price of $2200. They said they would like 2 weeks notice and for me to allow 7 days drive time.

For what it's worth, both times I used PlyCar, I received a quote by e-mail the next day through their web site, I then paid by credit card, and they started calling right away to move my car within a week. In one case, the next day. Travel mates for my car were two brand new Porsche GT4s, a pristine mid-year Corvette and some show condition southern Cali low rider Impala. Scottsdale Porsche uses them, evidently.

I tried to call Intercity but the phone rings and then goes blank. Not sure if they're still in business... I'm trying to get quotes from reliable and plycar now.

    Will,
I last used Intercity about two months ago, I doubt they are out of business. Also, their offices are in Massachusetts.

    Here is their website:
Enclosed Auto Transport - Intercity Lines

Business hours are posted under the "contact us" tab.

I have had them turn around email quotes in less than 24 hours inquiring on the website, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a quote outside of business hours.
