It was recommended to me to use Shell Rotella ELC NF coolant/antifreeze in my '76 308 but I have not been able to locate any locally. Only the NAPA store in my area has the plain Rotella ELC, not the Nitrate--(or is it nitrite?)--Free version. Is the difference significant enough that I should just order the stuff from Amazon?

Our pros recommend the NF. It is nitrite free so it will not react with any old OAT containing coolant already in the system.

The NF is accepted by a number of diesel engine manufacturers because of its cavitation inhibitor package. It and Caterpillar ELC are the only 2 rated to maintain their cavitation inhibitor capabilities for the extended intervals instead of needing to be changed every 1-2 years in engines with wet liners.
It can usually be found on Amazon but recently I have only seen the premix version available. .
It replaced the discontinued the Rotella Ultra that used a different chemistry to achieve the same result but one of its compounds was discouraged for environmental reasons.

Yep, rare stuff it seems. I was told that many of the TRACTOR SUPPLY stores carry it but not so in my neck of the woods--Boulder CO. Amazon will deliver it by Jan 5th, premix as Brian said.
    Merry Christmas everybody!

Having a bit of difficulty getting the rotella elc nf up here wondering if anyone would take a look at this data sheet and comment on which coolant might be most appropriate for a testarossa. These products are readily available at a national retailer up here. Thanks

I would not use anything that did not spell out compatibility with wet liners, and none of these do in the literature you posted.

Can you get Zerex G05? Has to be changed every two years at most but specifically spells out wet liner compatibility.

That will do it. Been running it in my 575M for 17 years with no problems. Change every two years.

Ditto. My previous independent was a big believer in flushing and switching to GO5 - especially in my Astons that factory fill with orange OAT (similar to Dex-Cool I believe). The 550 gets GO5 as well. The older cars with brass/copper cooling components still are treated to frequent changes of traditional green...

I prefer siOAT, the added silicate makes it marginaly less efficient, but offers additional protection for aluminium. I also look for "wet liner" in the description. This plus a well-known brand is good enough for me.

G05 was updated recently with HOATs, but even the old mixture worked fine with no possibility of liner erosion. Only disadvantage is it needs to be changed every two years vs the five of the Shell NF.
