    Shell Helix, I've only seen sold at Ferrari Shops. Shell US., owns Quaker State, and they have a Ferrari approved Q-Synthetic, that may be easier to find and maybe costs less. Here's their site;

    Hope this helps, Ciao...Paolo

    Paolo is right. In fact, Quaker State Q-Horsepower 5W-40 is Shell Ultra Helix rebranded for the U.S. market. Shell Oil Products U.S. (SOPUS) owns Quaker State and Pennzoil. Shell is the "economy" oil of the three, with QS in the middle and Pennzoil on top. Shell did not want to bring its top-of-the-line European oil to the U.S. and drop it into their economy line, thus the name change.

    If you can't find the Q HP in 5W-40, Pennzoil Platinum 5W-40 would be a good substitute, although it's not the same oil as Shell Ultra Helix. It's slightly thicker.

    Unfortunately, I can find none of these oils on my island, so I substitute Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 in my 328. This is a "heavy duty engine oil" which means it's rated for diesel engines as well as gas, and it's a little thicker yet.

    Happy hunting!

    Rotella is perfect for your 328. I use it in my P 3/4, 412P, and 166. Q-HP works well in P 4/5.

    Thanks - I'll get some of the rebranded Helix under the Quaker state label.

    Also - why not a 15w-50 weight in the south (Houston area)?

    That's as good an endorsement as you can get! From Napolis, no less!

    Be sure you get the synthetic blend of Rotella, which it will be if you buy the 5/40 grade. The 15/40 grade, is Dino or conventional, which is great for older cars and diesel engines. I use it myself for my older cars. The Quaker State Q-Power, is pretty new. Be sure you buy the Ferrari-endorsed, by the trademark, Q-Power as it will be synthetic and Shell Helix, the correct oil. Nothing else QS, sells is the right oil, so don't be fooled.

    We haven't heard from Dr. Haas, in a while. I wonder if he would add to this, if he will?

    Ciao...Paolo

    +1 for Rotella T synthetic 5/40. Readily available and it employs an incredibly robust additive package. Great hths and kinetic viscosity at high temps. I have been using it for quite some time now and have used it in everything from older 911 engines to older Ferrari engines in/out of track use. It also uses the same group III hydrocracked slack-wax base stock that Ferrari F1 engines use.

    Dr. Haas actually illustrates 0-W30 or 0-W40 are best for cold startups and minimizing wear. Pretty amazing body of oil info and chemistry. I use 0-W30 Mobil 1 in everything, has been great in TX

    Ali, how easy is it to find? I saw you're using them, but I never see it retail obviously. No pricing on website, and I cannot see grade reference. Warranty issues probably need info, otherwise they'll blame the oil. Pretty cool stuff. Couple references on M3 and RS4 sites.
    Thanks for all the info, I learned a lot.

    I am trying to find the Quaker state q-synthetic 5w-40 in Houston, but it seems there is no 5W-40, only 5W-30 Q-synthetic. Is this true? I am being told They don't make 5W-40 in synthetic.
