    I am fixing some road rash on the front spoiler and need to determine what to pick in term of paint, obviously the lower section is black, what is the sheen? Semi-flat, satin, semi-gloss?

    I used satin "bumper black" on mine. It's more flexible than regular paint.

    Thanks for the feedback, I also decided to do some (unscientific) testing..

    Satin by Krylon appears shinier than stock, is that the general experience?
    Semi-gloss is too shiny (Dupli-color)
    Semi-flat by Krylon is - to quote Goldilocks "just right"...however, as of two weeks ago Krylon has discontinued the formulation. Back to Satin, probably will be easier to clean and maintain!

    Dear Ferraristi,

    You can use Duplicolor "OEM Trim black" from Discount Auto. I use that and it matches the satin sheen on the rest of the black trim. If you want a better quality paint you can order OEM trim black from the Eastwood company. Same color....better quality and spray.

    If you use the Duplicolor, don't try to paint it in a few coats. The paint has a habit of uneven coverage. If you do about 25 mist coats, you really really get a great finish.....smooth enough to wax without residue

    I need to do this too - questions:

    Did you take the spoiler off to do the work?

    What did you use to fill the cracks?

    Take the bumper off it's easier. I made a mistake and at first used plastic padding but then was advised to use Stopper which is a very light fine paste, only scrape it on and off to fill in the chips. Once smooth a good few undercoats is needed. Take your time and build the coats up slowly even waiting overnight for paint to harden before adding the top coats. To fill in the cracks i used Araldite, with the edge of sandpaper file the crack into a groove and ad the glue, when dry you can sand it flush. I'm not saying it's the only way but it worked for me:

    I will depend on the condition of your spoiler. I did not remove the bumper, however; I have a lift so access is pretty easy. If your spoiler is in poor shape you may need to reinforce, Auto parts stores sell fiberglass kits that include glass and resin. If not structural, bondo will work for the smaller crack and kitty hair (bondo with chopped FB) for bigger stuff. I m not a big fan of glazing putty, as I would rather shoot a couple thicker primer coats and check for problems.

    If you have hairline cracks showing that is usually b/c the gel coat cracking below the paint - hard to fix right without major work (ie sand down and recoat). In lieu of that hassle, I have had good luck with a primer that is designed for fiberglass, fills holes and cracks well, good adhesion and flex. You will need to buy it from paint store and shoot it with a gun (tell you are painting a Corvette and they will give yo the right stuff). If you do not have a compressor, gun etc... or are not too picky, you can build up with normal sandable primer (Krylon has one) and wet sand with 600 prior to final coat. It will not hold up as well on the long run but I doubt anyone will notice.

    I took mine off, it was in bad shape. Used fiberglass to repair.
