You need to take the trip up to http://www.competizionecars.com !!!

Richard and Fernando are the best in the business and well worth the drive or transport. Walking through their facility you will be in heaven looking at some of the cars they have!

There used to be a guy in Richmond I trusted with an oil change on my 575, but he sold his shop and moved up north for a job. He did not have the proper equipment to do anything else. He was a 911 guru, serviced my 964 for years, and had worked on 550s before as well as doing the Baja 1000 as a spanner, so I trusted him, but there is no one else in Richmond that owns a shop that can do that stuff. You need an SD to read clutch wear and reset some of the things you are needing.

I can think of about 3 local guys who work on their own cars, but doubt they would want to take on the liability issues and only one has the proper tools that I know of such as the SD stuff.

Second Robert, there is nothing like Competizione. Those guys really know their stuff. They will save you thousands down the road by finding very small stuff no one else would know to look for. They have spotted other minor things that most people would not know to look for and nipped it before it became an issue in the future.

Fernando and Richard noticed a loose bolt on my suspension during and oil change that cost $15 to fix. It was about to let go, and would have totaled the car. Doubt anyone else would have spotted that.

Those guys are so cool, they will email you shots of the car and videos as the work is being done. Annie is so cool as well.

If all you need is a quick fix or oil change, you can arrange to wait. The shop will keep you occupied for hours just looking around.

My normal gig is to drive it up and take Amtrak back to Richmond. Shady Grove Red Line Metro ends right next to their shop, and they will give you a lift from the Metro and back. When the car is done, I take the train up and drive back. I think Amtrak first class ticket is about $25 bucks. You take the Metro right from Union Station and can walk the Mall if you have the time or desire. The train ride is very scenic and gives you an hour to read a book and relax.

Only one time has it been a need to truck it up there when the thermostat was running hot, and they got a guy who is always in the area and very reasonable for pick up.

I would also recommend Josh hill at exotic car specialties of Virginia in sterling. Josh has done all of the work on my 328 and always does a good job in a cost effective way. Of course, I don't know what equipment he has (with respect to your clutch reading) or his current workload / your timing for wanting the job done, but it's worth a call.

Thumbs up to competizione. I was located in Midlothian last year and they handled my 360 service no problems. They can arrange for pickup and delivery of the car via single car flat bed. Give them a call, you won't be disappointed. They get my glowing recommendation above everyone else.

Thanks for the recommendations, it looks like COMPETIZIONE is a favorite, has anyone went South to Apex Vintage or others?

Foreign Cars Italia down in NC is a nice place, I bought my 911 new there years and years ago, but it is a hike from Richmond. Steve Barney sold it and has a place down south now, he is a real Gentleman as well. Hank on this site is a good contact for FCI, real nice guy down there.

I will never forget the time a Ferrari truck rolled up at FCI when I was purchasing my 911. It rolled off a brand new 550 before anyone had seen one. The staff asked me if I wanted to sit in Michael Jordan's car before he did. Still had the plastic covers on the seats and I had to take my shoes off. I think it had 21 miles on the clock and no one wanted to start it. They pushed it into the shop and covered it.

The leather smell stays with me till this day.
