Ferrari won the International Championship for GT Manufacturers in both 1962 and 1963 in the over-two-liter category, thanks to the stunning force of the GTO. But for the 1964 season, the FIA made further adjustments, such that the resulting classes amounted to “under two liters” and “over two liters,” the latter of which now included the powerful over-three-liter cars. This resulted in much stiffer competition for Ferrari as the GTOs were now officially in the same class as the larger capacity lightweight Jaguar E-Types, Aston Martin DB4 GT/Project cars, and the AC Cobras. Ferrari was also denied homologation status for its latest sports racing car, the 250 LM, so the 250 GTO was placed into service for one more year.

The 1964 redevelopment of the GTO's design signified an advancement for the model. Designed by Pininfarina and constructed by Scaglietti on Via Emilia in Modena, this improved bodywork was lower, wider, and shorter, with a more aerodynamic, steeply raked windshield, larger tires, wider track, and the engine sitting lower - all with the aim of improving handling and balance.
The upgrade was considered so desirable that three additional cars originally built with Series I coachwork were upgraded to this new design, two of which featured an extended roofline in the style of the 250 LM. Aside from its aerodynamic intent, retrospectively it is considered a stunning addition to the car's presence and renders the car's profile not only supremely elegant, but extremely sporting and decidedly muscular.

    Chassis 5921
This impressive Series II 250 GTO recreation was carefully constructed over a period of three years by Motorima Coachbuilders of Sweden, utilizing a 1964 Ferrari 330GT Chassis and 250 GTE Engine. The selected Tipo 128F engine was built to GTO specs by Forza Service NL at a cost of approximately 100k euros, while the alloy coachwork was hand formed by the artisans at Motorima Coachbuilders Sweeden, along with chassis reengineering - all to methodically recreate Ferrari's Series II GTO in period form. Extensive records, books and photos document the build, with approximately $450K USD invested. Included with the sale is a binder with records, a coffee table book documenting the build process, and noted Ferrari 250 GTO books. Presented in Le Mans livery with vinyl decals, the GTO leaves a lasting impression and is an ideal addition to any enthusiast collection.

Recreations faithfully constructed like this GTO are eligible for classes of vintage racing with documentation and approval. The allowances continue to expand as the original vehicles (GTO, Jaguar D-Type, Maserati Tipo, etc.) values continue to appreciate into the stratosphere. Likewise, the investment required to accurately, painstakingly and proportionally reproduce a GTO to this level is also heavily appreciating, with some outfits quoting $1M USD + plus a donor car.

It’s not a “re-body”, but rather just another replica and apparently a real Ferrari 330 GT was butchered/scavenged in the process of its creation, so some poser can have a “Fake Rolex” with VIN from an original one.
    How pathetic. :(

I wouldn’t expect to have much, if any, money leftover after buying a nice, well sorted Daytona for same price.

This one would do nicely for me. I don't need a platinum level Daytona. Just one that I can drive 1000 miles per month.

Well, with your experience, prove me wrong.
Just get that or something equal and report back in a year and 12000 miles later.
