Compare it to these 4 genuine 250 GTOs. From top to bottom 3505GT, 3757GT , 4293GT and 3729GT. I'm probably wrong, but to my eyes the left hand side of the side window, the chrome part which points upwards next to the C Pillar?, doesn't point upwards in line with perpendicular line of the side of the door but at a slight angle on a real GTO, but on some of the fake ones it points upwards in line with the door????

there are many authentic looking recreations out there, and personally I've never seen a real 250 GTO in this paint coloring & driven in public ....unless someone knows the car 1st hand it's hard to say for certain ....but my own opinion is it's likely a recreation

Thank you everyone. So the thing pointed out by Steve, the fact that the line of the back of the passenger window should not be parallel to the back of the door, that is what betrays this particular example as something other than a real 250 GTO?

    Another difference is the roofline.
The replica shows a too strong curvature.

Perhaps the owner needs more headroom?

Michael, I did not get the chassis number, I was too excited about shooting (what I thought was) a real GTO, sorry!

Most likely based on a scrapped 250GTE or 330GT. Have never seen this particular car. My guess would be there more than 100 GTO fakes (Ferrari-based) and I have pics of maybe 50.

I don't claim to be a 250 GTO expert but the color of this car is, to put it mildly, unique. As this is probably a "recreation" at least the owner has not painted it red which hopefully indicates he is not really trying to fool anyone. It is a pretty good looking machine. Just for the fun of it I sent away for a copy of the sales card from Ottmann-Prazisionsf for their Replica GTO. This has got to be one of the worst reproductions of any car, never mind a 250 GTO, ever. The Dubbini brothers did much better. The front end of the O-P car is all wrong and the right directional light in the picture is tilted. From time to time it is a good thing to take a look how NOT to recreate. tongascrew

As already mentioned that roof curve seems far too exaggerated.

That white car is probably a Giulietta Spider, but the wire wheels are just a bit too big for the car. I like the alloys/steel wheels better.

This is very helpful for one who has always had difficulty with spoting good repros of 250 GTOs Having 4 good real ones to compare with in the same thread is really helpful. I see the difference in the angles of the rear of the door/window joints. I also noticed that the chrome molding around the side window of the repro is wider that on the originals. To me it is quite extraordinary that the basic shape of the bodywork on all the first series 250 GTOs is so similar considering all the work was hand done. Is it possible that there were specific builders assigned to specific body panels and chrome fittings which would contribute to these similarities. On these cars were the right and left sides of the cars identicle? Of course one of the problems that then come up is how many of the bodies on these cars today really resemble in detail their originals. I am sure this is a subject that all you experts will want to comment on. Can't wait. Sorry, have to go now. F1 starting o n the tele. tongascrew
