Agree. Great photos and write up. Interesting to see all that insulation and know the car is still pretty loud. I had always wondered if the rear central armrest would make a good speaker compartment. Good luck on the project!
I haven't taken it apart, but it seems to me that it is just a leather covered pillow. Doesn't seem to be anything structural there.
Well, I've finished redying and reinstalled everything. I'll get pictures up as soon as I recharge my camera. Overall I'm happy with the results, but for a real as new interior, you're better off having everything recovered. The dye isn't so much as a dye but almost a paint. It took many more than two coats to get even coverage and it does need to be applied thick to get the desired coverage. The good thing is if you screw up, you can always sand it off and start over. I would put the number of hours in the project at around 23 or so spread over several weekends and in between entertaining for work. If an idiot like me can do it, it really is something anyone can try.
That's the impression I had of my seats when they were redone. I have decided to have the interior of the car redone again by either the factory or a restoration specialist. The center console is fine. I just want the carpets redone (again) and the seats releathered and the doors reskined as well. Once that is done, I will get the factory cert and I'll be happy.
Mine came with TRX so I am stuck with them. I was looking at getting another car with my bonus but I decided I like my 308 to much so I am going to do it right. It was a fun learning experience but I never really liked the seats and it was always nagging me. I called Shannon at FNA ttoday and left her a message but she was gone for the day when I called to see about getting the factory to do the car or recommend a local shop that the factory would accept for the certification program. I have every thing the car came with new, just the seats, doors and carpet are bugging me too much to leave them as is. Sorry for the hijack
From the Ferrari Owners Site.... The Ferrari Classiche certification programme was created to provide owners with a document that attests the originality of their car. The service is open to owners of (1) Ferraris GT cars over 20 years old, and (2) F1 single-seaters, sports-racers and sports-prototypes of all ages. Those interested in obtaining the certificate for cars that respect the relative criteria may send in a request using the form provided (see pdf file on the right). Once the request form and the technical specification form - complete with the documentation required - has been received, Ferrari Classiche will start the certification procedure to determine, on the basis of specific criteria of authenticity, whether the car in question is original. The assessment process carried out by Ferrari Classiches experts and consultants is extremely rigorous. Details and costs relative to the certification procedure are given in the General Conditions contained in the request form. As well as attesting the originality of cars, with effect from the 1st of January 2004 the authenticity certificate will be required for all vehicles taking part in official Ferrari classic car events. For the application form and technical specifications sheet to fill out as well as full details of the procedures and the criteria to comply with, please click on the relevant PDF download on the right-hand side of this page. To obtain the certificate, owners must: 1) read (i) the general conditions concerning the certification procedure indicated in the request form and (ii) the authenticity criteria; 2) print the request form, fill in all the fields and sign the form; 3) print the technical specification sheet, fill in all the fields indicated and attach the photographs requested; 4) send all the documentation (request form, technical specifications sheet and attachments) to Ferrari Classiche, Ferrari SpA, Via Abetone Inferiore 4, 41053 Maranello (MO), Italy and effect payment to Ferrari of the sum of 500.00 (five hundred). Once Ferrari has accepted the application for the certification procedure, the final cost of the process will be comunicated to the client on the basis of the maximum costs applicable as laid out in the application form.
On the Qv it has a structural bit that reaches up to nearly the top of the armrest, I'll post pics later.
It doesn't photograph well in the garage, but you get the idea. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That was before I put the front seats in, smartass. 6'2", plenty of room for me, in fact, the front seat isn't all the way back when I drive...
the brilliant interior space engineering in that chassis size and mid-engine configuration is one of the main reasons the car is so impressive - it has amazing head and wide shoulder room - much much more than far larger cars
As far as I can tell it is hollow and therefore could easily be modified to create a bass tube and still keep the armrest. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Many thanks Well, it looks structural to me, so I guess I will leave it alone for now. I also think now of the extension of Manny's Mondial fire through a hole in the firewall by the seats... Any othe places you see that might be a good speaker location??
It is more of a support for the armrest rather than adding any particular element of strength to the car. You would be able to modify the shape without affecting the car in any way. I would not hesitate or worry at all.
Check ebay, a nice set there now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Original-16-wheels-tires-89-Mondial-t-cab_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ66482QQihZ020QQitemZ300004304644QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
