I am about to trade my non shielded FF for a F12 with Scuderia shields. The F12 is a great build but I would like it to be shield less. I love the discreteness of my FF without the badges. I read they can be removed on a F12 by changing the panel they sit on. Is this true ? If so how much of a pain and how costly is this? Or is it just for nothing as the F12 will get more attention then the FF no matter what?

Yes you can change the aerobridges wich hold the shields.

Don't forget that for 99% of the non-car people a Ferrari is a Red Testarossa.

The F12 is discret, even more if it's not red. I'm not sure the shields won't change anything to that

Funny coincidence, I was at my service center and the parts rep and I were chatting about the 812. He asked me what spec I was leaning toward. I mentioned shields and he asked which kind, painted vs badges. He said that F12 owners sometimes wanted to add them and that was pretty easy to do since they are on the aero bridge, as compared to the quarter panel which are still doable but more costly and involved.

I'm not sure the shields make any difference in terms of how much attention the car will attract. A Ferrari always catches your eye. Of course, bright paintwork and racing stripes will call even more attention to the car.

If your reason for no shields is they stand out, are you also speccing or planning to switch to black or grey calipers? Seems like that's an even easier swap than the shields, with more impact to the world at large.

I’ve gotten far more comments/questions from non-officiandos about the calipers than ever about the shields on our Fcars. People asked me why I had those bright colored things behind the wheels, but I never got comments about the shields (have always had shields on our 8 different Fcars for 18 years now). Never once a comment about the shields, lots of comments about the red/yellow calipers on cars that had them, never about the grey calipers/shields. We’ve had Fcars with red or yellow calipers, and they always drew far more attention than we ever got about the shields.

Just another opinion/perspective, but I’m curious about what I perceive to be a contradictory statement often made for or against shields, but never about the calipers.…

With all necessery respect, I can understand that some Ferrariowners in this forum do not choose shields for asthetic reasons but I can hardly follow the "discreteness" argument for a V12 Ferrari. These cars you mention you first hear on the street before you see them and when you see them how can missing shields disguise them, especially an F12?

In my case I either drive a Ferrari with all the personal pride and especially joy that comes with it or I would better buy a Honda Civic. I could not care less what others think about my car, especially when I know that 99,9% would love to own one of these masterpieces as well!

Right because driving a 750hp v12 ferrari doesn't stand out without shields

My advice is to drive the car with the shields. Give it a few months to one year. If at that time you are still bothered by the shields, yes, you can go and get aero bridges without the shields and then you get those painted to match- or perhaps you can order them painted for the factory. It won't be inexpensive, but you can make it happen. You might find that, while you might have ordered the car differently, it doesn't actually bother you. Or maybe it will...

As an editorial note on brake calipers, its funny, because I've had people give me positive reactions and negative on bright yellow or red calipers. I have cars with all these colors and a car with silver calipers, a little less attention grabbing. I had someone tell me the silver calipers ruin the car as a Ferrari must have yellow. My conclusion: it really depends on the car, and the owner. And the rest is simply noise. In certain situations I like colored calipers, and sometimes I like them more plain. I've stopped being an absolutist on such things. That's just my take.

Interesting to hear that people notice colored calipers but not the shields. I recently found out you can also darken the shields and badges with window tint.

Part of the fear about standing out is about drawing attention from haters, who might come over to key the car. Of course haters will also spit, but at least that's easily rinsed off and wouldn't do damage like the acidic nature of bug juice.

I agree, interesting about the calipers. Never had a comment on them. Maybe because they're black?

Can a vinyl wrap be used to effectively cover up the shields? Then, the owner can have the discretion they seek, plus it can be removed upon selling?

Because again...haters won't notice the 750hp wildly race car looking vehicle. It's the 2 small shields in the front that will be noticed.

Gotta stay away from those haters... Why can't they just leave other people's properties alone?!

Plastidip the shields will probably be easier: Spray them when you want them to be out of sight, peel off and show them when you want them seen. Has anyone used plastidip on their rides?

Yes, let's all take a can of spray paint plasti dip to our Ferrari's to hide the shields to obscure the car from the haters. This thread keeps getting. Water [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

One option is to replace the bridges with carbon bridges w no shields.
If I remember correctly the price is high but not insane. Though the labor was higher than one would think.
You can save the originals if you change your mind or sell the car.
