Agreed I was there and it was like some kind of pricing insanity happened during that hour...and that car was not worth 100k ..much less 400

I never needed a password for hammerprice app. New for me.
Just FYI: This excellent hammerprice app has been developed by Harley Cluxton IV, son of the legendary Harley E. Cluxton III (race driver, Ferrari dealer, Mirage owner, etc, in Scottsdale/AZ).

Thank you. Seems as though 09781 was the better car - and a better buy...

    No.
09781 has some crash history. And has been on the market since 2015 with no takers for all these years.

It is always good to do the homework. Also called due diligence. Prices achieved reflect what you get.

Thanks Marcel..I tried again and got it to work. Needed to supply my email and make a new password, then confirm with a click through from an email link. Works fine now. Was curious about the 1985 308 GTS at Russo and Steele. App shows a high bid of $40,000 - appears to be no sale.

Ed, do you by chance have any pictures you took of it at the time ? If yes, would you care to share them here, perhaps on Daytona Pics thread or privately ?
I was presenting another (client) Daytona at C.I. and just didn't have time to look at others there or attend many other venues that year.

The most surprising car for me is the 308 GT4 at Gooding for $140k all in. The car seems to be very good, but far away from perfection. Unbelievable result...

    Estimates:
    242 1967 Ferrari 330GTS 09781 RM/Sothebys $1,800,000.00 $2,200,000.00
    154 1967 Ferrari 330GTS 10111 Gooding Scottsdale $2,200,000.00 $2,500,000.00

Like I said, I thought those estimates were optimistic to say the least. Other than the 512M, anything come in within the estimate ranges? Anything over the high estimate? If the estimates were balanced there should be an equal number that go ver the high as come in under the low, right?

(Marcel Massini, I am not directing this to you, just using your price reporting. Thank you.)

Estimates are just estimates. And often made/set months before the actual auction takes place. In the meantime the market can change completely, both South and North.

While I didn’t crunch the numbers and there were obviously exceptions, but general impression I got from monitoring RM, Gooding, Bonhams is that in the segment of the market we follow, the cars seemed to need the 12% buyers premium to reach the low estimate range.

If it was a Naples car, $140K is less than what they typically ask for their restored GT4's.

So who won and who lost here? ;)

Also, I would like to take a moment to interject what an asinine amount of fees are involved in auctioning a car, on both the sellers side, and the buyers side.

As premiums have crept up, you will without a doubt see BaT continue to hammer into the market. I don't like it, and they're saturated (240+ live is too many), but just in fees that's a rolling $100K cash flow per month with NO SALES FEES involved.

The big auction houses will continue to be the spot for really excellent cars with proper provenance, but why would I sell my Z8 at Gooding when I can not leave my office and achieve the same result or better with 95% less pain?

Anyway. Scottsdale sets the year up, it will be interesting to see in the thaw how Amelia does.
