I've decided it makes no sense to go four post lift as it's just too tight in my garage. The bendpak scissor lift mid rise(Pizzaman's Chris and others have I've seen) looks great but I wonder about alternatives.

This lift at American automotive looks pretty comparable and about a 1/3 less. I wonder how it compares. Does anyone use this lift:

Wondering how it compares to the Bendpak, and if the Bendpak warrants the extra cost. Probably does, just wondering if anyone's experienced this lift.

    Jeff,

I cannot comment on the lift you are looking at but I also purchased the Bendpak mid rise scissor lift and love it. It makes tinkering so much easier.

You can always come by and take a look at the Bendpak MD-6XP scissor at my house, just give me some warning so I have time to remove the car that is permanently on it :) and you can see how a 328 would fit on it. I have pics of a 308 on it somewhere. I actually bought the Bendpak scissor lift not to work on a car but for the purpose of getting the frame at a reasonable height on the car I am restoring, no more bending over and hurting my back.

For engine out work I prefer a 2 post lift, so ok come by the house and you can see how your 328 will fit on a Maxjax (a short 2 post lift designed for low ceiling garages, even though my maxjax is outside). I bought the Maxjax in anticipation of buying a 355 that needed its engine out work, but I never got the 355.

But for real work on a car, I still prefer a 4post lift...give me 5 minutes to move the Dino off of it and you can try that one out also :)

My garage is in a state of flux and quite messy right now, I can't even find half my tools as I am playing house builder/remodeler and not car guy but when I get back to being a car guy, I am ready. And I can find the lifts if you want to compare. Just 2 blocks off upper State St.

    Hey Mike,

If you're doing an "open house" on those, I'd love to see too. I'm over by Turnpike.

    Thanks

lol, open house was not my plan but ok...do I have to provide burgers ? :)

My garage is a serious mess right now, can't do any automotive work in it with table saw and tile saw taking up major space and throwing up major dust, sometimes I can't even get to my workbench with all the house remodeling junk in front of it. So don't be disappointed if you come over but yeah, the maxjax and the 4-post are easily viewed right in the front of the garage, the scissor less so since its in the back with a 1934 Singer Le Mans on it (not a sewing machine) as I am restoring that car. We can pretty easily lower the Singer and move the scissor to the driveway to try it out if needed but I would prefer waiting a month or so until the remodel is done. If you just want to see the lifts, then ANYTIME works.

Chris asked to come over and put his 308 on the lift to diagnose a problem a week ago, not heard from him since but that would clearly show how well the 4-post works.

    Hot dogs would be fine...j/k.

My son and I might actually go to Cars & Coffee in Montecito on Sun. Maybe after that, if that works for you. If not this w/e, anytime works for me too. You can email me directly at: [email protected]

    Jeff,

Here is my thread using the BendPak midrise lift. In the event you end up purchasing the Bendpak Pizzaman and Chairpilot provided some instructions on the pad placement. Of course you will have the hands on experience from seeing Mike's in the flesh but I thought I would throw it our there for future reference.

Hi Mike - sent you a pm last night, but just saw this thread as well. Seems like every weekend gets packed but I could come by today at around 1 or tomorrow - I'll be at c&c then breakfast with my daughter so maybe from 11am on I'm free if you are. Really appreciate the offer!

We just installed 5 Werther sissor lifts in one of our Subaru Service centers last weekend. I purchased them from the Werther factory in Italy. My wife and I first saw them in use at the Ferrari Factory in their classique department.

These are 3.8" off the floor when fully down. The drive on pads are approx 20" wide and 59" long. 35 seconds to fully extended and 40 seconds for full decent. We removed 4, 2 post hoists and with some reconfiguration we will add a 5th Werther hoist in the same space.

I will tell you these were very easy to install basicly a plug and play system. We placed the base pads in their location drilled holes thru the frame down into the concrete. Using concrete anchors we had the hoists bolted to the floor in a couple of hours. They provide floor spacers and covers for the hydralic lines and these spacers give the correct distance between each pad. Then connect the hoses all color coded and lettered. We had 4 totaly installed on less than 8 hours.

These hoists are an incredible addtion to our service center and the techs love them. Now for the down side. I'm not sure you want to use a sissor lift if your Ferrari has a belly pan. You might want to check out the need open space for removal. I ran my 308 and my 400i up on the hoist just to try it and we had lots of service room under the car. I forgot to mention the hoists rise up to 6.4 feet above ground if you are a taller guy.

Also the other down side is due to the size of the pads you might have difficulty doing any removal of fuel lines, brake lines that might run down the sill of the vehicle.

I looked at all of the manufactures of sissor lifts at the Sema show last November and checked with previous purchasers of the various brands. Werther had the best rating, the best service and the best parts availibility of all manufactures. The Nussbuam had issues with support, parts and general service, this information from recent purchasers. If you go to Suburb Service facebook and sign in as a friend you can see the hoists being installed and working.

Call me at 206-919-1949 if you want additional information. Believe me I did my homework as this was a major expenditure.
