I would be livid if East of the Mississippi. Runoffs are about the best amateur club racing and most don't have a budget to do more than the Regional Nationals and then limp into Runoffs.

  2. But it would be okay for South Floridians to have to tow to Sonoma. Nice....

edit: Aaaaahhhh. You mean if you were east of the Mississippi. (I hope... :))

but seriously, I like that the Runoffs are moving around now. I thought it was a bit stale to keep going back to Mid-O or Road Atlanta. I think they've done a good job accommodating different regions, and some really cool venues (Laguna, Indy, etc)

that said I don't think Daytona was the best track for most classes of SCCA...

  6. No you didn't. But apparently now I do. :p
My initial interpretation was that you would be livid if the runoffs were east of the Mississippi. (words in parens mine)
You posed the question, "Runoffs at Sonoma?"
Followed by "I would be livid if (they were) East of the Mississippi."

Thus, the adfdition of my edit. :)

you aren't very bright are you? that even makes less since with your first post being "But it would be okay for South Floridians to have to tow to Sonoma"

  8. Miracles never cease!!!

First I agree on needing to get laid. (always true!)

Then we agree that Daytona was not the place for the Runoffs.

    Scary... :D

Jeez. I thought my edit and explanation woulda cleared it up. Who's the dull knife here?

    My interpretation of your post:
"Sonoma?" "I would be livid if (it were) east of the Mississippi" (as in you would have to go east of the Mississippi)
My response, in essence, "But for easteners, that would be okay by you that they have to go all the way to Sonoma.
    Nice."

My edit, in the same post, stated that I caught my misinterpretation.

Not to hard to understand "all" that, is it? :p :D

    Texas!
Maybe the SCCA needs to pony up some travel money.

  13. Alrighty then. :)

    Now, back on topic....
Sonoma?...eh. 'Could take it or leave it.

How about Road America? Kinda fast for a bunch of classes however.

Runoffs were at Road America 2010-2014 IIRC. better show than Daytona but near 3 minute laps for some classes, so any yellows and you basically had a 3 lap race.

as an aside, RA was the site of the crazy Level 5/Scott Tucker DSR runoffs story made famous by Jeff Braun on Dinner with Racers.

They could have done it at Portland, so it could have been worse. OTOH it is still better than Heartland....;)

But few yellows were thrown at RA SCCA 2014 in the races I saw......I saw a rollover at 1, never went yellow. Perhaps a 3 minute lap works in favor of green flag racing?

My 2-3 Runoffs were at Heartland, I loved it! Great long track technical corners and good paddock space. Topeka itself so so. ;)

SCCA is club racing nationwide! SCCA is doing a great job. There are many racers Runoffs able, who are nationwide racers. I'm lucky to be one of those. I understand the vision of SCCA to have regional events for those who want to race and not travel or participate in a real national event "the Runoffs" once in a while in their area. That's how SCCA hooked me and it worked! Now I'm on my 4th consecutive Runoffs and Sonoma will be 5 in a row. Runoffs are fun with the highest level of competition in cool places around the country. I always combine a fishing trip with racing SCCA Majors and runoffs. I'm lucky racing out of cali seeing new tracks, eating cool foods, and fishing new areas around the country.

Daytona was a boring track in my underpowered restricted T2 vette but it was still fun and it was Daytona. How often does a west coaster get to race there? Indy is a roval. How much fun can that be? But it is Indy! When am I going to get to race the yard of bricks again? It is a must do. SCCA makes a great fun event. Moving the Runoffs around so locals get a taste is a great way to recruit future racers willing to travel after they realize how much fun Runoffs can be. I never thought I would race out of cali. Now I race anywhere in the country and it is because of SCCA.

I was probably one of the few that enjoyed Topeka. The only bad part about it was lack of spectator appeal. Mid-Ohio last year saw a decent spectator turn out again.

I loved Heartland Park, but of course those are the only Runoffs I did. :) I would drive up there for just Nationals too.
