Well it was a fun 3+ years...
Not at all. Mainly the D**KHEADS that rev and do burnouts on that side street. And the people who park in that last row and throw revs. I can't say I blame SR much. After all, it is Private Property and they can do with the lot what they want. I also think it's a bit short-sighted in that a lot of the folks that came there on Saturday mornings also spend a hell of a lot of money at the various shops and restaurants. We'll see what happens! Jim
Actually, security said we had to simply ask the prop. mngr for permission. Her orders came from the security manager. I sent an email this afternoon to the real estate company that owns SR. TJ said he was going in person to their office this week. Lets see what happens.
I thought so, but without a smiley or winky icon I wasn't sure. Actually it's funny you mentioned the "Great Ice Cream Incident". I saw him up at Alice's on Saturday, and told him of the situation. He was worried that it was partially his fault. I told him not to worry. Really nice guy! Jim
Security Pick up showed up around 10ish accompanied by SJPD. Parked in the middle and asked us all to leave. We were told that we coulnd't "loiter" it was ok to park there as long as we left our cars and went about our business but we were not allowed to walk around and look at other/each other's cars. SJPD said he was there to "protect" Santana Row security. I left around 11am (my normal leaving time anyway) and there were still quite a few there. SR security lady startded walking around with pen and paper. Nothing that we did triggered the "sudden" appearance. There was no revving or what not. It wasn't even all that crowded when they showed. Too bad, you'd think SR would welcome exotic cars in their "exotic" shopping complex... Kai
Shades of Crystal Cove (SoCal) where the management company stepped in and banished the Saturday morning gearhead gatherings. Albeit a smaller, more intimate gathering, Santana Row has provided us NorCal folks with many memories and fostered new friendships. Long live Santana Row Gearhead Saturdays!
Let's be optimistic, folks. The core group consists of real car guys - we do want to "loiter and check out each other's cars" and when we're done, we usually go to a Santana Row restaurant and get a table for ten ... and that's only one of the many circles that frequent our Saturday morning gatherings. Occasionally, we get groups that need to announce their presence and/or departure - loudly - which affects everyone, unfortunately.
Good ol memories of the meet from long ago! I definitely am optimistic that (like Crystal Cove in LA) a new location will be found and that the meet of enthusiasts from all over will continue. Good luck all -- as I have not been able to make these meets much.
When we were trying to decide where we should have the venue for our Saturday meetings, we considered SR or Stanford Mall. We ended up in SR since it was easy access from the freeway. Any chance we can move this to Stanford Mall? Maybe the parking lot on the El Camino side would work since it is not close to ay residential areas. Thoughts?
After a couple of e-mail exchanges on Saturday and phone call with the security team from me and TJ...... we are more than welcomed at SR, and please return. However, there are some "new" rules that I think we can live with. 1) Please don't rev the engines. 2) Only one parking spot per car. 3) Soliciting vendors are not permitted 4) And no tents Everyone enjoys us being there, including the SR staff its just some ground-rules had to be expressed so that everyone is happy. Please pass it along.
