Congratulations, Peter! She looks fantastic. Must be amazing to restore this car by yourself and see this incredible result - I'd have a hard time changing oil:).

Peter, I don't recall what series your Dino is, but the slats in your front grille appear gray in the photos...shouldn't they be black?

For the faint hearted; The seal edge around the engine room is not the correct type, it shall be of a soft rubber type....this will be changed when I receive the next lot of rubbers from Cicognani....-:)

matte or satin black if I recall, correct? (my Dino has been in storage since Aug, so I can't just go down to the garage to check)

Original would be black anodizing on raw mill finished aluminum that would yield a satin black finish. You can get away with satin black paint or powder coat as it is almost impossible to tell the difference once installed.

Is it the vertical or the horizontal fins that should be black, or both ?

    Best regards Peter

Thanks Iain...A simple seacrh revealed the same conclusion (See Alvaro's grill below). Damn how could I miss that? I even had the grill anodized and had the black option readily available. Back to the drawing board...

Sorry to have pointed that out, but you've done such a phenomenal job with your restoration, it would be a shame to have such a visible part in the wrong color scheme.

Correct and your catch is VERY appreciated. I have gone this far so it would be nothing less than a disaster to drive around with a wrong colored nose and claim it being original. I have no clue how I could miss this out, but there are many details on these cars and mine was initially altered in all directions so there were many changes to keep track of. It is only a minor adjustment, I just had to sleep on it....-:)

    Best regards Peter

Yes, the whole grill is anodized as is the door opening step plates. All the aluminum parts were sanded with size 500 sanding paper prior treatment.

A couple of days ago I stumbled over 2 kg of lead while clearing out my late father's garage. The lead must have been laying in the garage for more than a decade since it has been illegal to sell / buy lead in Denmark for more than 15 years. The catch reminded me of my missing center nut lead hammer and the fabrication plan that have matured in my mind over the last couple of month. It takes approximately 1.6 kg to cast a Dino 206 lead hammer, so I was home safe with the amount of lead. I turned a steel hammer head to cast from, sourced a steel pipe for the hammer handle, 5 kg of plaster and 100 ml of yellow 2K paint for a total cost of 22$. This project brought up memories from my childhood when we made tin soldier castings, I wonder how much lead I have in my body from the good old days.....-:). The pictures speak for them selves:

    Best regards Peter

The early 246 Dino L series will only fit the Dino 206 style jacks with the thin and slightly bend lifting pin. I gave the jack a light blast with glass beans and a good layer of Epoxy for corrosion protection followed by a layer 2k yellow. I know it is much better treatment than original but now I know it will not rust. Gave it a new cap, handle and rubber pad for the lifting arm.

    Best Peter

Peter your post on making the lead hammer really made my day. Very clever and a wonderful remembrance of your Father.
