    best,

p.s. i had a very long night as well with the fires so very close. it is very hard to explain the feelings and concern of such a possible loss...i feel for those that have.

I just went to my home to pick up a few things and feed the fish. A worker in the neighborhood told me the Witch fire was contained at the base of Cielo. I tried to get over there for a look to confirm that, and Lone Jack and El Camino Del Norte (main thoroughfares into Olivenhain and North Ranch Santa Fe ... where the Bridges is) are both blocked off with National Guard troops (with rifles). I asked the Sheriff (who was posted there with NG) when we could return home. She told me that Witch had calmed down in the AM, but that it's heating up again now. I probably spoke with her at about 2:15PM today.

Air quality is much better in RSF/Olivenhain area than up here (we're holed up in Vista).

I would imagine their OK to go home is much better than any of the misinformation on the news.

That said, according to SignOn, part of Olivenhain has been officially evacuated:

"Encinitas city officials have ordered the mandatory evacuation of Olivenhain east of Rancho Santa Fe Road and north of El Camino Del Norte, although there are no fires inside the city."

I've been hearing that the SD fires were sparked by arson (if it's true, hopefully the bastard (s) are caught and flamed to death), and the Malibu area one was caused by a down power line. Not sure it that is true. I hate how some people (broadcasts) are that it's automatically global warming or such.
When you think these fires will be contained?

I am glad to read that it seems everyone has come out untouched (other than the smoke). My family was also evacuated in Olivenhain off of Lone Jack. We are on the Escondido River so the fires last night at the base of the Bridges were a huge concern. Glad the winds cooperated. I have gone back a few times to check on things and for now all seems ok. If someone needs to store one of their exotics I can make some room at Cavallo MotorSports in Carlsbad. Its secured, alarmed and has cameras. Let me know. This is one hell of a week for most of us.

Jerry - The fire is currently north of Reche Rd burning NW toward DeLuz Canyon area. I made a trip back in this morning (live near the high school) to feed the animals I couldn't get out (and check on the 328 still in the garage) and, except for a heck of a lot of smoke, my area seems OK for now.

I'm planning on making a trip back in tomorrow (Weds) morning and would be happy to check on your place if I can. Let me know.

I just got back home, I had to take a break, here are the updates as I know them...sorry if these are repeats. Olivenhein, Encinitas evac has been lifted at 7 (although I was able to drive around all throughout there all day today) and people are allowed home. Del Mar has also been lifted and people are allowed to go home. Huge flames can not be found anywhere from the Witch or Fallbrook fire at the time but officials are still concerned to make sure it doesnt start back up over night. Wind has moved back the other direction heading in the Julian area and that fire is moving back the way it initially came. The witch fire is being contained around the hodges area and so far is under control. So as long as the winds dont pick up or turn around again they should be able to control it through the night and have full containment in a day or two. I can speak to the Encinitas/Olivenhein area as the skies being MUCH better, air is breathable now (not perfect but MUCH MUCH better) and clear skies overhead. Same goes for the Cbad and San Marcos/Vista areas.

Thoughts go out to those that didnt make it unscathed, best wishes to those people and to those who are still in harms way.

We found out today neither our house or the house in progress got burned. The fire came right up to the properties but the firefighters did an incredible job saving the houses. No houses in Cielo were lost. I am really grateful for those brave men. I hope the same luck carries on to others. Thanks for all the support!

I'm sure glad to hear this ... this luck also went to a friend of mine in Cielo (off of Camino de la Mitra).

Now, some of us more fortunate ones will deal with the clean up. I can't image what it would be like if I lost my home. I have a cousin that is in the CDF. It makes me proud when I say this. I have so much respect for firefighters.

This Testarossa was smartly parked at the Albertson's parking lot (La Costa Ave/El Camino Real) in the La Costa area of Carlsbad. It would be a sin if this Redhead fell victim to the fires. At my house near the beach, it has been raining ash most of the day. A very small inconvenience as compared to all the property that has been lost.

Just dropped in on this thread and have not read anything prior. For those that need hotels, try the following at an affordable corp rate:

Ho Jo Anaheim L3 Rate $125
    Westin LAX Raytheon Rate $88
Four Seasons LAX Raytheon Rate $109
Hilton Lax Raytheon or Northrop Grumman Rate $98
Double Tree LAX Grand Ave Raytheon Rate About $110

Watching the fires on 20/20 and the News @10 this evening. Unreal. Will be flying down tomorrow AM for a stay at LAX and Oxnard, leaving Friday.

I just got an IM from my friend (his dad had the 360 Spider @ the last Carlsbad meet). His house in Escondido is completely burned to the ground. All they have is their clothes and cars. Wow. So how bad it is for me it is a lot worst for other people. ChevyChase, omgjon, petert, and the others whose just dodge a bullet, you guys are really lucky, as am I. If it wasn't for the hard work of the firefighters, all our homes could be gone..
