Does anyone know of a salvage title 308 for sale? Thx
It's a euro QV most likely a German delivered car with the bird screens. And a rare color to boot. Could be worth saving.
Well... start with a repair bid of $10,000 for damage one can see. As for painting the whole car following repairs, another $10,000. Unseen damage, who knows? It was hit pretty hard... suspension damage, rear frame damage, no end of possibilities. Then, a major service, start at $5,000 and up. As the current bid is at $12,500 that comes to $37,500. So far. All a rough guess, of course. Somewhat high mileage for a Ferrari, then consider the salvage title aspect. Why was the estimate of its value put at $3,500... which seems- taking probable or at least possible costs to restore into consideration, not too far off, really. Don't mean to post a downer, just trying to be realistic. Cheers, Rich
With Jonny involved, he must be up to something! I think I can hear the gears spinning here in Texas!
Agree. My family owned a body shop for 30+ years, I'm going to make some calls and seriously look into this car, I'm in the Denver airport at the moment. I see nothing catastrophic, needs a new door, took a pretty good shot to the post ( not so good )and may require some time to get door hinges to align properly. Another concern is shipping. Seen quite a bit of damage done to vehicles by just moving them around the yard with a loader..
no disrespect to the sceptics but I suspect you are bit off on this one. It's a euro car so the doors do not have the safety beams required in US cars so they will crumple easy. I would have an inspection done before buying but the hit looks high on the car and the windshield did not crack at least I can't see it in the pics. Given that I think there is a chance the suspension is ok. The buyer of this car looking to put it back on the road would most likely not go for the $10k bare metal paint job but one that is presentable. If the car is like I suspect and a person were to do the work themselves and bought good secondhand parts this could be a bargin at the the current bid. As far as the mileage the car has had its speedo changed to a US one and without documentation how do know what it really is. The interior looks better then many "30 k" cars I have seen. Odometers are BS on many 308's
Sorry, just realized I didn't post in the "cheap Ferrari" thread, didn't mean to step on your thread.
Because someone fat fingered the typing or the insurance guy fat fingered it. Copart usually is good about the estimate of value as the retail value. They don't go so far as to figure out what everything would cost to fix it then come up with a value as is.
Sorry to wake you up. Anybody calling 3500 realistic does not know what he is talking about. Only the wheels sell for more. Get real please. This car will probably sell for 15k minimum.
Well, I've been restoring cars for over 40 years, and it's ALWAYS more than one expects, costwise. As for the dollar amounts I've given it they might be high, but what if they aren't? Much would depend on how the damage and deferred maintenance is to be accounted for... done in one's own shop, at a professional facility at $120 per hour (like here in California) or...? Parts are very expensive, no matter where. Concerning realism, costwise, of course you could get your money's worth for the parts, but the issue is restoration of a damaged car, not making money by selling its parts. So look at it this way: after $15k for the car (your estimate), plus another $15k allowance for repair, paint, and a major, assuming no other damage (glass, interior, whatever) you'd then have $30K in a repaired car- meaning damage history- with a salvage title. What would it be worth to a subsequent buyer, in comparison to a similar car with no damage history, clear title, and possibly less miles? So far as the $3.5k goes that was their figure, not mine, but even so it would go a long way to making more sense from a financial point of view. Of course the bid's now much higher, so that's no longer a possibility. And as they say..."caveat emptor". Cheers, Rich
If you are looking for a "Salvage Title". I could let the kid at the gas station go for a test drive in my car......how much damage exactly are you wanting to repair?
probably a pretty good chance. Thats a very unusual color combo to have many of them floating around.
Wow, that's amazing. It probably is the same car. I see one difference, but it has been 30 years so the door panels and carpet could have been redone. I'll post up the crash pictures. Perhaps the car's birth picture and death picture can both be in this thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It must have been a hell of an impact. The headrests flew out In all seriousness. I hope he's OK. Any one know details about accident? Sent from my DROID RAZR
Even if this happened a few years ago when 308 values were in the basement, I am suprised the car was declared a total write-off. The salvage title is forever. It looks so severe and the point of impact looks so high, it might have been painless.
The insurance Co. Wrote off Carreaper's 328 a few years ago with damage that IMHO was marginal at best.. No disrespect to Carreaper, I'm sure I've opened a can of "whip ass" with this comment! LOL!
There is no such thing as un fixable. I bought a fiberglass Studebaker Avanti a long time ago, Rifledriver knows the car. The front was literally gone, the chassis was cut off at the fire wall, the cut off front chassis with bent A frames and a broken rotor was sitting in the back seat. The firewall was also badly broken where the engine had partially gone thru. The rear suspension was gone and what was left was banded to 2 pallets. I saw potential and rebuilt the car. 20 years later it was in a freeway accident, I was struck in the rear and shoved under a 3/4 ton pickup. This time no frame damage, and we did a massive nut & bolt restoration, she earns 398 to 400 points in National Studebaker & Avanti shows.
I already have a GTBi. There are certain mods I would like to try with a 308, but would prefer trying on a vehicle that is not going to take away from the pool of "clean" cars.
