Anyone ever use one of these to shave before? I typically use the Norelco one blade and then a 5 blade Gillette something that I use for actual shaving.

Looking at this guy right now, but unsure if I should pull the trigger. Would like to hear thoughts from other safety razor users first.

    Thanks

I have coarse Italian hair. I have to use some combination of near every #*&$^Q$# tool out there. Gilette/Norelco detailer, 5 blade cartridge (Dollar Shave is actually pretty good,) Braun electric is the only one with the power to get through the branches and my intinitely-grained face...

I have valiantly and patiently tried safety and straight shaving at home and for some reason just haven't got the knack. I LOVE the idea of my man-rituals, but resolved the old ways ain't gonna happen for me.

Started to have more luck incorporating better grooming/prep products (Fine Fettle from the UK is my new favorite) into my routine.

I have no idea what fine fettle is, so I will Google that when I get home later. My hair isn’t that coarse, so I’m not sure if that’s needed, but I do get some agitation on my lower neck still. Maybe that’s what’s missing?

    Thanks for the response buddy!

I used a blade and shaving cream for the first 10 years of my shaving life and then my father gave me an electric shaver as a gift. It was a Norelco. In the intervening 45 years, I have had three of these shavers and the time it's saved me over blade shaving is probably an entire year. Blade shaving might be closer but the difference between a blade shave and an electric shave is literally one hour of the day.

In addition, I've probably saved enough money from not buying razors and shaving cream to pay for my Ferrari's garage. (maybe a tiny exaggeration)

A month or so ago I started using one of these, a Henson safety razor.

Took a few shaves to get the hang of it, but fewer nicks and a really nice shave once you figure out how to make it work best for you. Takes a little longer than with a multi-blade Gillette rig, but I feel it's worth it, sort of a few extra meditative minutes on the mornings I shave while using a quality, rather than a plasticky/gimmicky, razor. Not the cheapest razor, but as the blades cost pennies per month it's cheaper in the long run (that's not really why I bought it, though).

It's also nice to experiment with shaving soaps and brushes; I'm new to the safety razor thing but haven't used shave cream out of an aerosol can for at least a dozen years.
