This is the dumbest post in this thread. If you were so diligent as you claim to be, you would have noticed that the OP joined Ferrarichat less than 2 weeks ago. So what, exactly, would you expect the OP to contribute in that short time? Ironically, perhaps this thread is his contribution to this community as he has helped people avoid this shop in the future...but since you were too busy attacking the OP you wouldn't have the time or the common sense to consider that as a contribution.
{Who} cares when his first post is, when he joined or if this happens to be a valid first post? Should I examine all your posts and decide from my perspective if you have been a contributor or {otherwise}? Just {don't make posts like that}
From here it seems to me that based on prior positive experience the car went to RAC without any questions asked. A reasonable choice. It has also come to light that that RAC may not have someone qualified to work on THIS car but took the job anyway hoping for the best perhaps based on a mechanic's assurance he could do the work. When things went south it sure seems they dodged the issue at first. I'd like to hear that first voicemail. While the car owner is not obliged to let RAC attempt repair I would need a very convincing argument as to why not if they indeed offered to. IF they did then they also ought to be willing to cough up something towards the other shop's bill. As for the other shop saying their bill would have been $1k less. Yeah, right. Sounds like ****** move, trying to make themselves look good at the other guy's expense and rubbing salt in this guy's wound. I hope this gets worked out but so often hear of folks abandoning the fight. That is how bad shops persist. Welcome aboard to the OP
Ouch. Andrew, not saying you're wrong, but most of us are used to Brian's, er, style and chalk it up to many years of inhaling fumes while fiddling under the hood of classic Ferraris. D
I'll vouch for him also, but "rules are rules"... I hate to think this might be one whose deep vintage wisdom we don't get back. I know where to find him of course....in fact I have some art work to give him, for the new place.
Kind Dr., Also understand rules are rules.. but Mr. Crall has his style that is his own. And while I might not exactly have used the same words he did.. I'm sure I thought of them at one point. I would also like to implore for understanding and a milder timeframe. His contributions and insight are welcome by so many of us...
As I told him privately, I appreciated his sentiments but advised that he must find a way of saying the same thing without the profanity. If you all feel you can communicate this more effectively than I can, then that is the only thing that is required. Ban lifted. All the best, Andrew.
So. Anyone up for getting this thing back on track? Any news from any of the involved parties? I for one, find it interesting to see that RAC was so quick to answer and dismiss the OP's first post, but not the latter ones. I will be honest and say that the OP seems rather good at being consistent, detailed and direct in his way of telling his side. That's usually a good sign.
I am siding with the OP on this one. His detailed account trumps the short, damage-control type post from RAC.
I don't know jack *&^%(& about the F1, But there is a "set up" procedure after a new clutch, to 'hand shake" the measurement system. That sounds like it went astray. I just carve a new clutch, out of a rock, and hammer it in there, but the F1 takes some finesse in the installation. The greater concern is WHOSE F40 is in there?? Thanks, Beaker, I was not wanting to second guess your moderation, at all. We like to keep to conversations genteel, and all that. There was some odd posts going on in this thread. There's a lot of new Ferrari owners that don't jump into the mix until there's a problem. That's a shame, because the miss some good parties! Maybe RAC will weigh back in, on the 'Ferrari Certified Tech' issue. Or, those are older photos of the F40 service?
^^^^ This is super important these days, it happens more than anyone of us would like to think. Adding a logo and stating that one can work on _____ does not make it so. This goes for old as well as new models IMO S Well stated post, thank you. As to your point about Scottsdale pointing out they could do it for less.... bad taste or bad timing. When were they ok to say it? They weren't able to quote it before hand. So the only time they could have pointed it out would have been after the fact. I am finding the more I research , Dealerships CAN actually peform a lot of repairs for less than expected. They have invested in the correct equipment, training, factory support access, and most often have the hands on experience to do the job right the first time. Consider that my labor rate is $160 per hour and the best Indi shop in town is $130 per hour, a saving of $30 per labor hour for an apples to apples labor quote. The parts are being sold at MSRP by both parties so unless one or the other provides a FCA discount , parts pricing would be the same. So then it comes down to labor hours being charged for a job. I feel this may be where the " savings " are found... Can ANY shop undercut another estimate in order to get a job, yes. It goes both ways. S
