hello everyone, i'm looking into a decent daily driver.. so i'm thinking either the S55 AMG or the CL55AMG.. granted, i love fast cars, but this will be a cruising car with clients/friends/family.. i just bought a new truck so that department is ok, and i'm not using it as a sports car seeing as how i already have a list of those to start working on, so should ibuy the s55 and be happy with the size and available power? or do you speed freaks out there think i will be unhappy and should sacrafice the extra size for the faster cl.. granted these will be 00-02 models and not supercharged. i have already thought about the M5 and 540 sport but decided against it because i love MB's interior 5 million times better..

i wouldn't buy a pre-03 unless they were nearly giving them away. not a very interesting ride. buy a pre-owned late-model E500 or something - you'll get similar performance and features for even less money.

once they ramped the blower though, it was a whole 'nuther story. but the '03s and above seem to be holding decent value (surprisingly enoguh).

? well i like them, decent power, solid build (interrior wise) and my buddy works as a service manager and not only can he hook me up with warrenty work on any car i get (thats in warrenty obviously) but he told me 00-02 wouldn't be a bad year service wise.. sure it doesn't have that extra 70 hp from the blower, but trade out the tail lights for the '03 tails, lower it and get some decetn TASTEFUL wheels on there and it would look nice

I personally love the S55 - lots of room, decent power, good looks, good business car that is not so flash.

The CL is also nice a little more flash and performance... Neither a bad call really...

There that is some help... errr or not :) :)

Nice going - your loan business must be treating you well! I remember the threads back a few months ago when you were starting. You can't go wrong with either of these cars. I like the CL personally, just because I like the coupe look. Keep up the good work!

The CL has a bit more performance and has almost as much room up front as the S500. More flash, but personally I like both cars. If you need back seats, get the S.

dont get intimidated judge.. anyways, i'm not talking about getting more business, just if i have to maybe take a client somewhere.. ya know, i had a client refere his father to me for some advice on real estate investment and he wanted to come out so i went and picked him up.. i would rather show him that i must be doing something right than drive around in a blue 2001 hyundai..

Best advice so far. Any of the 2000 (update) and later E55's are a great buy and reliable to boot. Later models can be a PITA with electronic gremlins.

try the Qp Maser, the benz family has lost touch with itself, and as one respected F chat member once said "benz is only a ststus sysmbol in the subdivisions or for towing the trailer to a trailer park"

Totally agree. I'm glad the kid seems to be doing well, but appearances with a $100k+ car could easily turn off clients. All they will think about is "now...how much commission are we paying him?"

On one hand, I think if you've been doing that well then you certainly deserve some rewarding. But like Judge noted, some people might be sensitive especially in situations where you are handling their money. Now, maybe you care, maybe in SF area this isn't really a concern. I know in the Midwest and South I probably wouldn't use an AMG as a client car... at least not until I was more of a partner or principal. Of course, there is the counterargument that people want to work with successful people.

What cars say successful yet more reasonable? Cars with high 'value' per dollar. My instinct would say something Japanese, probably a Lexus GS or LS430, or an Infiniti M45 or Q45. I have heard of some in CA thinking that successful people don't drive Japanese (while ironically the #1 car with millionaires as of a few years ago are Ford models). Maybe an Audi A6 or late-model 5-series.

I'm not trying to encourage you to step down because you can't afford a car like the S55, but as a client-driving car maybe it would be good to 'fly under the radar' a little more. Heck, I'll bet you could get a certified Infiniti and a (personal use) 348 for the price of the S55!

Just don't turn off your target clients because of jealousy, questions into your commissions, etc.

But if you want to go all the way, maybe you should look at late 80's Rolls Royce and Bentleys!

If it is for clients, you really have no choice but to go for a 4 door. I agree that something a little less flashy would send a better message. How about the Infiniti M45?

ok, um.. so one mentioned a 100k+ car, i'm talking used 00-02.. no where near 100k.. and rylex mentioned i should get a 348 and an infiniti, well again, i'm looking at 00-02.. maybe i could just get the 348 LOL.. but no, the sport car comes later.. even though this is why i did all of this work is to buy cars and sport cars, i decided to continue on with my investments and RE-invest my money.. i realize, instead of buying one sports car now, i can buy 2 next year.. or 4 the next year.. well maybe not exactly but you get my drift.. anyways, mercedesbenze55amg i have thought about the CLS, but have you sat in the back? i'm 5'8" and my head was hitting the ceiling.. sure, i have like 1 and 1/2 inch long hair kinda styled forward/up but still.. that means a 5'9" guy would be hitting.. i think thats a little odd.. and to tell you the truth, i thought about an infiniti G35, M45, QX56 things like that.. but i just would really enjoy the MB.. i love their build quality.. it just feels so much more sturdy inside.. i'll check out the other cars though cause i've never even been in an M45 or QX56.. thanks for the help guys!! any more comments just leave em

What's wrong with the '02 CL55? I was looking at buying one, and the '02 seems significantly less money than the '03. Just wondering why?

I own a 04 CL55 AMG and it's pretty quick, quiet and rides quite well, however the back seat leg room is very limited, not meant for adults!

Sorry about thet, I missed the 00-02 part. However, the purchase price is beside the point.

It doesn't matter if you were able to buy an '06 S65 for $1500, it is how you are perceived by your clients. Most of them will not be car guys, and wouldn't know an S55 from an E350. In their minds, big Mercedes=big $$$.

I remember how dazzled you were by your supervisor's flashy possessions, but you have to understand that those ostentatious displays will probably turn off more than they attract. Especially in your business, where your participation frankly has very little added value, perception is reality.

IMO, an Expedition or Yukon would serve your needs much better.

hmm.. really? i never sat back there, only looked in the back from the front seat and noticed it has more headroom than a CLS.. i'll have to check out the leg room.. that may just lead me to the S55..
