Ross Brawn was quoted in an interview that he believes that Michael Schumacher probably will never leave Ferrari as he is still very close to the team. Brawn also stated that he doubted that Michael will ever return to racing, and that the role of testing and developing the car for Ferrari is one that Michael enjoys, and will enjoy for the next few years.

Seems a waste, I'd rather like to see him jump in Rubens car at Honda with his mate Ross ,it would be a worthy challenge and great to watch.

Thing is he won't nothing to gain but lot's to lose, the young ones have gotta prove themselves he doesn't need to been there done that.

It is great to know that Michael enjoys testing and developing and has little desire to leave Ferrari. His experience and understanding of the F1 cars is priceless to the team and its engineers. IMO, this shows that he has a honest love of F1 as IIRC, no other retired driver that I can think of, had been willing to step down from the lead driver role into the testing and developing role. Or was there ?

And so much for the BS theory that he was "forced out by Luca".

Doesn't surprise me. Why would he leave Ferrari? What else does he have to prove? He certainly doesn't need money. I doubt he'd want to help another team make life harder for Ferrari. He still gets to cruise F1 cars on a track to develop them and give his input, without the worries and stress of being right in the competition, AND collect a nice 8 figure annual sum for doing so. Sounds nice to me!!

Seems to me when I see someone come put of retirement, they end up getting killed half the time.

I wish he wouldn't do development work, either, for the same reasons.

But then again, he could get killed in a plane crash or get hit by a drunk driver, so why not live life to its' fullest ?

You never know, I tell the kids all the time that 'nobody wakes up in the morning and says to themselves "today is the day I get hit by a cement truck"'.

I think the rumor was "forced out of the race weekend seat", not necessarily the team, I believe there is truth in that rumor.

Schumacher was seriously considering retirement at the request of wife and father by the end of 2005. Schumacher wanted to wait until Brazil 2006 to decide, but then that would have put the team in a bind for drivers, so deMontezemelo forced Schumacher to make a decision by Monza 2006. Michael figured if he won another WDC, he would race another year or two. Luca made the correct business decision.

That is the only "forcing" that was done, as Michael would have been more than welcome to stay and drive for Ferrari for as long as he wanted, as long as he made the committment. He has special skills that will take into his 40's to be diminished, everyone at Ferrari knew that.

If he was forced to retire by anyone other than his family, specifically anyone at Ferrari, Michael Schumacher's true ego would not allow him to return as merely a test driver. Why would he, he is a legend. And frankly, he would be racing for another team as I write this. And winning. And beating the pants off his former team as his way of telling them to kiss his strudel behind.

Michael Schumacher was not forced to retire by Ferrari. There is no logic to that conclusion.

i really wish i can believe you Ron, but post race at Monza, everyone's body language, especially Todt and MS, tells a different story.

from what i know, MS made a decision to retire at the Bahrain GP. he spoke to Todt about this, the 1st person at Ferrari. Todt asked him to take his time on this.

then, MS made his final decision at the US GP, and he told Massa about and then the whole team, and asked them to keep it a secret.

i think he didn't want to announce early, because, it'll put more pressure on him to win the title that season. imagine if after Brazil, whether he won the title or not at the post race press conference, he announces his retirement....

but having said that, the truth will come out in the next few years at least.

hope u have a good new year Ron. :)

I wish he would race at Le Mans...especially in a Ferrari LMP. A bit of a pipe dream, so I'll settle for an F430 GT.

I'll have to agree with Brian on this one. Watching the post race at Monza felt a bit uncomfortable with the way everyone was acting. While I'm not going to hold a grudge and say MS should still be racing for the team and blah blah blah, I do think that he was forced to make his decision a bit earlier than he would have liked to. I'm sure there aren't many hard feelings harbored, but I think he would have liked to be able to wait until the end of the season to make any sort of career announcement.

Gosh this brings back memories of the last few races of 06' and the catastrophic engine disaster in Japan that pretty much ended his title shot, which honestly I think he would have won had that not happened.

+1,400,000,000. That's the best guess as to how much he has made as a driver so far. Not a bad life's work. :):) He may well be the best we will ever see and his team building capabilities are second to none. His history in F1 proves it.

No where, no how can that be proven.

"was seriously considering retirement" "request of wife and father" "Schumacher wanted to wait until" "Michael figured if" "he would race another year or two."

    You're telling a story bro.

So MS was forced out? The media covered this for awhile, MS was to leave to make way for Kimi... That's what happened? But you claim there were different motivations behind all of it, but the exact same result occurred? Too far fetched for me.

    Perhaps, perhaps.

Of course there's logic to it. Kimi was coming and as it was stated many times, Michael took issue with certain drivers being his team mate. Luca seemed to be overjoyed with Kimi, so if Kimi were to be at Ferrari, Michael would have to leave.

    Tell me that didn't happen....

Believe what you want. Why would anyone want to believe he was forced to leave Ferrari? There is no logic to that concept. Actually sounds like tabloid fodder. Consider the following 12 months since Brazil 2006.

Michael hasn't "left" because of Kimi or forced retirement, that is the point. He is still with Ferrari. You and others that want to believe they saw discomfort in the press room at Brazil are presenting the only story. Again, he is still part of Ferrari, so it appears you may have witnessed a lack of PR coordination at Monza, but nothing more. All was forgiven as he has a new contract with Ferrari. Ross Brawn even tried to get him to go to Honda, but there was no interest on Michaels part. Money didn't matter, his relationship with Ferrari which includes the top boss Luca, Todt, etc., meant more than money.

So you see I'm not telling a story. Why would I? This was all over the Eurpean press and in interviews he always mentioned family responsibilities as part of his decison to retire. His mother wanted him to quit, she passed away a few year's ago, his father carried the message forward. His wife was a big part of the retirement decision. Keep in mind, retirement talk was brought by MS before the end of the 2005 season, so it was not a surprise to anyone within the team. So how do you force somone out of their seat when he already made the decision to retire?

Besides, subsequent events prove my "story" correct.

Ask yourself why would someone of MS's stature, ego, and ability continue to work with a team and team management that forced him out of his racing seat? That is ludicrous. If he was so insulted, or upset with Luca, he would have jumped into another car just to prove his point. He had no contractual obligations that would have prevented this. He has enough money to turn his back on diMontezemelo and the entire Fiat empire. But he hasn't. And I do not believe Michael Schumacher to be a woose. Kind of puts a wrinkle to the "story" that he was forced out.

Also ask yourself why he did not jump into another seat for 2007 if retirement wasn't real, Ron Dennis supposedly made him an offer, BMW supposedly made him an offer. Certainly other teams approached Willie. It's apparent that MS has not lost much of his driving ability despite gaining weight, he would still qualify in the first two rows.

He retired becaused he felt it was time, not because of silly tabloid stories about MS and Luca not getting along, or not wanting to race alongside Raikkonen. He was forced by Luca to make the decision, and announce the decision by Monza, not Brazil. Obviously he ulitmately understood that pressure, otherwise he would not be helping Ferrari, Luca, Kimi, and Phil.

    More so Phil.

But believe whatever you wish to believe that makes the story more interesting.

(fyi: my former partner employs willie webber's son and frequently has dinner with wille sr)

So it couldn't have happened because you don't want to believe it could? Then you follow up with calling me illogical? Seek help man.

Consider the 12 months? OK, Kimi replaced Michael and the team is/ was broken up as per what I read for a year straight. Hummm.

Uh bro, MS is a test driver and doesn't score points, "he left" means now and has always meant "he left the drivers seat" <<< that was his job and now it isn't. How can it be clearer? He retired... he left his job. How many ways can it be said?

"so it appears you may have witnessed" "All was forgiven" "there was no interest on Michaels part" "Money didn't matter" "his relationship with Ferrari which includes the top boss Luca, Todt" "meant more than money"<<< Again you're weaving a story based on your perceptions of events. Anyone can do that and call it fact.

Yeah, whenever anyone in a high profile situation gets canned or pushed out or leaves because they're unhappy, they usually spin a pleasant story. More time with family, other things to do in life, I've done all I could accomplish etc... These are common statements, I wouldn't expect MS to bash anyone from Ferrari.

And don't get me wrong I didn't say Luca wanted MS in the poor house or humiliated I just said he was forced out. A set of circumstances arose MS had his feet planted in the same position they've always been in and about one of two situations came to light that could force a hand or a decision out of him and he folded. No shame, no hatred, just business... as you said.

Uhh, the story for quite awhile was ""Kimi is heading to Ferrari and Michael doesn't want to share the number 1 with another top driver what will happen???""

So what did happen? Michael gone, Luca overjoyed at Kimi's arrival and Todt a little pissy.

Michael Schumacher never ran the Ferrari team, he had his input and clout but never could make any decision he wanted. So ego means very little. And like I mentioned above, I doubt there was a screaming match or angry answering machine messages, just a fork in the road. I also didn't say he was insulted. I think you're adding that to make it sound like there was a huge rift {which I never said}.

Why would MS jump to another seat? He lost two years in a row to Alonso and he always said when a younger driver consistently beat him, he would retire. Which is what he did. He also said many years ago and several times since that he would retire from Ferrari, not any other team and Ferrari would be the final team he would race for. Which is what happened.

Yeah MS can still race a car but so could Ide. It doesn't mean they will win a Championship or even finish in the top four.

I would have loved for MS to race another 7 or 8 years, he has been my favorite driver for over a decade, I don't care if he races until he's 45 and only can manage 30 points a year, seeing him drive was my F1 experience. Now that he retired {along with the scandals} I've lost quite a bit of interest in F1.

"He retired becaused he felt it was time" Yes, as I mentioned above he's always lined out what would make him retire and in the last couple of years, he was slow {his fault or not}, he got older and from what I know he didn't change his mind about sharing the number 1 spot. All 3 could have been a factor or it could have come down to one factor we don't know about but I do believe there was pressure for him to either share the ride or take a walk into the sunset. Again, I didn't ever say he and Luca didn't get along those are your words.

So you believe that it was just chance that MS didn't have a number 1 partner for 10 years? Again, there are doctors who can help you find the way back to sanity.

You can tell me time and time again what you think he was thinking but that doesn't hold even the smallest of salt grains. I can tell you "MS had a brain tumor in China and he was afraid for his life and had to retire to fight the tumor". It doesn't make it true but I could still try and support it.

FYI, You're not the only one who's 6 degrees from Keven Bacon. Name dropping only impresses soccer moms and little kids, sorry.

Ultimately what does it matter? Obviously they have gotten over their differences. MS is still at Ferrari and they are better off for it. I am with Neil on one thing though, MS not driving anymore in F1 sure has changed the feel of it for me. With him driving you had the perception that anything could happen for him to pull it out for a win. Alas there is no one today I feel the same about. Certainly not from the wiener FA.

I tend to agree; however, I think Kimi really pulled through and stayed consistent and was able to win WDC when a few races from the end it look impossible. A few missteps from LH didn't hurt.

Like I said, believe what you wish. You provide only your opinion, nothing coming from reliable sources. MS lost to Alonso for two years not because MS was slowing down or getting older, but because he had a second rate chassis on second rate tires. MS's retirement had nothing to do with another driver, retirement plans came first, Raikkonen came long after. And I personally believe MS would have won another WDC in the 2007 chassis, he's lost nothing in speed.

MS could have stepped into any other potential chassis for 2007 and won the WDC. He had serious offers. He did not take those offers, not because of any allegiance to Ferrari, but simply because he wanted to retire primarily because of family pressure. Why is that so hard to believe? Those references to family as a reason for retirement were made by him before Raikkonen came into the picture.

To suggest that MS did not run the Ferrari team is a bit foolish. His input is what made the team what it is today. He brought together the personnel that brought 7 WDC's. He did not have Todt's or Brawn's job title, but his will was always followed. MS would have had #1 status even if Raikkonen was his teammate. Keep in mind, Ferrari has already indicated they do not have a #1 driver to start the 2008 season, so Raikkonen was not brought in as a given #1.

Willi Webber is MS's manager, I am going to believe comments from him long before I believe anything from someone like you that makes ridiculous analogies and then makes personal references to my sanity. Call my statements crazy, but do not cross the line and comment about me personally, that is when you lose what little credibility you had. I am not passing on my persceptions, only what I have heard from reliable sources, and I feel Webber is reliable. Especially about MS's retirement and his potential teammates. I believe I told you months ago, please do not respond to my posts, I will not longer respond to yours. I made the mistake of not recognizing you. And I definetely and thankfully am not your "bro".

Yeah your 6 degrees from someone's second cousins' mailman who once saw someone who looked like etc = Very reliable and credible.

You can name drop until you're blue in the face but your comments aren't any more factual than mine.

As for not responding to your posts, as long as you keep spouting your "Look at me, I know the score" posts, I'll respond. This one is pretty tame though.

Go have dinner with whatever famous person you have plans with and report back all the juicy details.

And I was being sarcastic with the "Bro" and "dude", I was playing down the idea of you being between a grade A name dropper and a liar. And I doubt you could ever be a brother to anyone. Day in and day out with you growing up? Yikes, now that's scary.
