Does anyone know the best way to travel to Maranello from Rome? I would like not have to drive myself if I can avoid it. Looking for the fastest simplest way.

    Thanks

You can take a train to Modena and a taxi to Maranello. While in Modena be sure to go to the Enzo museum which is different than the Factory musuem

Candy and I took the train and it was clean fast and quiet. The countryside was beautiful and most interesting. Just a warning watch out for the local pic pockets and people that get into your back packs in the Rome train station. Also look out for the Gypsies that carry babies and try and get into your pockets, thats a art form there.

Our cab ride from Modena to the factory was about 35 mins and uneventful. Its very easy to get a cab just accross the street from the train station. No problem with language.

Speaking of the train get a 1st class Eurorail pass that allows you to sit in better cars, and use the 1st class lounges in the train stations. We were able to purchase the Euro Rail passes and pay for them here in the US and was able to get the tickets delivered to our office via mail.

Where are you staying in Marnaello? We stayed at the Planet Hotel accross the street from the factory which allowed us to see the new cars on their maiden road tests as they left the facotry gate and drove around front of the hotel. I believe our room was either 509 or 510 which overlooked the f-1 track the f-1 shops, nearly new very nice hotel with friendly staff all speaking english. It is an easy walk to the Ferrari Museum and Galeria where the tours start.

If the f-1 teams are out of the city try and get you guide to give you a tour of the f-1 department including the "most valuable room" in the factory. That being the room with 77 retired f-1 cars all stored there for their new owners. The f-1 shops and storage is the original factory. For 2700 euros per night, you can actually sleep in Enzo's home and office on the f-1 track.

We did the Rome train terminal to Modena (our hotel was in Modena), then taxi to Maranello. Very easy to find a taxi to Maranello, but it was hard to find one around 5:00 PM to take us back to Modena.

Rome train terminal is large and fast paced, but there were plenty of helpful people. Even if they did not speak English, show them your ticket, and they point you to the monitor and the correct track. I really asked quite a number of times to make sure, even just before stepping on the train. Your ticket may be all the way to Modena, but the train may say Florence or whatever the first stop is. Modena terminal is small and simple, but be sure you go to the right track. There is an underground tunnel to the tracks, and you have to go up the stairs and be at the right track, and on the correct side.

Bought the tickets from a US company: ItaliaRail - Italy Train Ticket and Rail Pass Experts They were very helpful.

You do want to use the first class option. It is not first class like an airplane, but nice with good seats, restrooms, and a "food bar/snack counter". We had two facing seats against a window, and the ride was very enjoyable. The level of first class is also dependent on the train doing that route at that time. I think we scheduled a time based on the train. Not all have first class. Round trip for two adults in 2008 was $446, included FedEx tickets to my house.

A few things to pre-plan, but the train will probably be the fastest, simplest way short of a private plane.

It sounds like the train to Modena would be best for us then a cab to Maranello. I don't want to rent a car if I can avoid it or have to drive.

Q - How long is the tour? We are staying in Rome and I was hoping I could do this as a day trip and not need to stay overnight in Maranello.

Modena is over 200 miles from Rome, and the train will take nearly 4 hours each way. We did train day 1 afternoon, all day in Maranello day 2, train back morning of day 3.

Visiting Maranello is about more than the tour which is about 2-3 hours - it partly depends on what time your tour is as if its 10 am you'll struggle to get there - having said that it is possible and that should leave you all afternoon to wander around

+1 on getting the first class train tickets, I didn't know this on the way up and got the regular tickets......wasn't awful but was a long ride and very crowded. Got off and promptly got first class tickets for the way back. Much more relaxing.

based on the cost of train tickets, taxis etc you might ask your hotel about a car and driver for the day..just a thought

    Hi,

Great info I this thread - thanks

We have 4 days in Italy. I was hong to spend 2 in Rome and then travels and take the Ferrari tour and then fly home (Los Angeles) from there.

    Questions -

What time are the pre-arranged owner tours?

What areas will we get to see?

Where should we stay and can we fly home from there?

Any other suggestions from those that have done this?

    Thanks, Mitch

I went on the Ferrari factory tour last April, 2012. The tour starts in the morning and is fairly comprehensive. They take you through the museum and then the factory. You'll start where the engines are being put together. One worker is assigned to one engine and builds it from start to finish. You go on to the assembly line and watch the fabrication performed in various stations by workers and robots. Our tour did not include the paint process I assume because they wouldn't want much traffic through that area. You will also see the formula 1 cars and track. The whole tour process in Maranello is fascinating and you'll be glad you made the trip.

We stayed at the Maranello Palace Hotel right accross the street from the Ferrari factory. Staff was friendly and accommodations certainly acceptable. The town of Maranello is very nice, good restaurants and easy to get around. Have a great trip!

    Hi,

ok we are going to come right from Munich to Modena by train, stay 2 nights in Maranello, do the factory tour and museum our full day there and then go to Rome the following day.

Is there enough to do in Maranello there to spend 2 nights?
Maranello Village hotel looks very nice and Ferrari decorated but Planet Hotel is right across the street from the Factory. Which is closer to the town/night life and what do you all recommend who have been there? I assume we can do the tour and museum all in one day?

    Thanks, Mitch

I hope I really don't need 30 days advance notice for the tour or I am screwed.

Any ideas or is it all done through the dealers?

    Thanks, Mitch

Try Ferrari Comcierge tomorrow (I assume your in the US); 866-551-2828; and you're dealer... They finalize dates about 6 weeks or so in advance....

Planet is easier to walk to everything; across from the factory/next to Cavallino/museum down the side street

Make a dinner reservation at Ristorante Montana; lunch at the Cavallino...not sure about two nights in Maranello. There's really no nightlife....
