It's awful... and I say this as a Rolls Royce owner.

It's funny how Range Rover can make the best looking SUV, but then Bentley and Rolls make SUVs that have the same proportions as the black cab/Hackney carriage.

Yep. Range Rovers are just handsome, well-designed vehicles.

Everytime I see a Bentayga, I'm reminded instantly of its VW/Audi origins.

Ug... the Bentayga. Another abomination. There's something inherently wrong with these cross-platform vehicles. Particularly when we're talking about bespoke cars like Bentley and Rolls Royce. I can think of few that actually work, let alone look good. F-Pace/Velar are one example, but how many others are there?

I think the Defender 110 looks good, but for different reasons. :) The only new SUV I'd want is a Land Cruiser...very sleeper.

For those with short memories, Range Rover have history in that area, too:

Rolls Ghost / Wraith / Dawn look OK to me, despite using a BMW 7-series platform, but I guess you don't share this view.

I'm going to be controversial and say that I am pleasantly surprised the look of the Cullinan as shown in the photo of the red one above, but I'll suspend judgement until tomorrow, when I trust we'll be able to see a lot more of it.

Yes, that one was a dog. I know because I owned a 4.6 back then. It wasn't a worthy successor to the Range Rover "Classic."

Apparently, it was originally intended to run through 2005. But when BMW took over, they fast-tracked its replacement, the L322... which was an improvement in every category.

Indeed. I had a friend who owned one of the second generation R-Rs and it was always easy to get a rise out of him by asking for a ride in his cab!:D

From an aesthetic point of view, I prefer the L322 to the present offering (though the latter is technically superior, which is as it should be).

The original, of course, is still the best looking, but that is true of so many cars.

I prefer the L322 more as well. I still have my Supercharged L322, but eventually, I’m going to have to upgrade. It’s a shame. The newer Rover looks too soft. It’s starting to adopt too many styling cues from the smaller Rovers.

I’m not a fan of the RR suv. I’m not a fan of the Bentley either. I think the main issue is that the SUV size and proportions makes their already large design a bit “too” big and blockish. Like an injury that is swelling up... :)

I'm the biggest fan of Range Rovers but I think the newest generation (2013-current) look like minivans. Okay, maybe not that bad, but I feel they've lost their traditional distinctiveness. The 2018s do look better than the 2017 and prior, but not enough. The Bentayga is horrid, and will need to see more of the Rolls-Royce to fully judge it.

Disclaimer: I currently have 2 Range Rover Classics (and have had others in the past) and have owned 5 of the previous generation RR (the L322).

Uh the Phantom is within 2-3" height of being an SUV anyway. This should have been a 2006 model.

It is. Phantoms are massive in person. They already look like SUVs with a trunk.

I should have liked to have seen the rear view with the tailgate closed but from what I can see I like it. I don't like the wheels.

My comments were directed towards the SUV market, which is why I referenced SUVs like the Benteyga (Audi Q7) and Velar (Jaguar F-pace).

Yes, but doesn't the same principle apply to other types of cars than SUVs?

My first time up close with a Phantom, circa 2005. I'm 6ft in shoes. Note the Carbon McCoy in the background.
