I agree on part of that. The part I find interesting is the falling off on race. It has been so odd to see. I wouldnt called 4th and 6th or 6 and 7 falling off. But some weekends it just disappears.

Then that applies to Bottas and Hammy, right? Which makes Max the most brilliant driver since Jim Clark.

Not a valid comparison. As you will no doubt know, different cars have totally different geometry and aero characteristics. So the same driver in two different cars will generate different wear profiles. The RB is just better at looking after it’s tyres in the heat than the Merc. However, in the case of the pink mercs you have two drivers in the same machinery. The racing driver got more out of the car but that resulted in higher tyre wear. The pay driver couldn’t drive at the same pace and benefited from lower wear as a result. Luck was on his side today - it certainly wasn’t a result he was expecting as was clear from his post race interview.

Congratulations to Lance for moving up in the drivers' standings. He is now 7th.

It will be interesting to see whether he can reach Albon. Fingers crossed.

    Nico Hülkenberg
    #27 Racing Point RP20

Produced a lap to rival Hamilton’s wet-weather masterclass at the Styrian race, in terms of lap of the season so far, to take third on the grid with such little prior running in Sergio Perez’s car. His slow start, and the fact he picked up a severe tyre vibration that required a third stop, costs him a perfect score, but what a fine weekend overall.

    Lance Stroll
    #18 Racing Point RP20

Another anonymous performance from Stroll when his Racing Point is in the headlines purely because the RP20 is so controversially fast. He made a solid start but only rose a spot on lap one after Hulkenberg’s Loop wobble cost Ricciardo momentum. He didn’t look like passing Hulkenberg by the time of his temporary team-mate’s late extra stop. Qualifying defeat to Ricciardo costs another mark. Started 6th, finished 6th.

Stroll was following Hulk at about 2-3 sec gap for an extended period prior to Hulk being called in. Unless the cars were set up differently any tire wear difference would be a matter of driving style, not pace.

Nico said the new tires felt very different than his previous set. Appeared they wore a bit faster for him. Tire roulette for the grid on this one lol. Just ask Mercedes.

Exactly my impression, there was no reason to be any closer to your teammate unless you plan to pass because following to close causes excessive tire wear and engine overheating. Lance drove a solid race and was faster than everyone except the Mercedes, the Red Bull’s and a Ferrari. He also was faster and outdrove Riciardo who showed the Renault’s speed in qualifying.
Naysayers keep an open mind, this is a new season and things change.

Of course we know Lance had no realistic aspirations of passing Hulk. Lance drove 52 laps, and got passed with 2 laps to go. He doesn't race.

And no, nothing changed...Stroll keeps making history, after all:
He was teamed with massa and was on average 1sec per lap slower...yet, at the end of the year massa left and Stroll stayed!
he was then teamed with Sirotkin, a rookie, the Russian, although a rookie proved faster than Stroll, but at the end of the year lost his place!
So daddy buys a new twam, fires One of the best new drivers and puts lancelot in the car, this time against Perez....sonny boy is trounced once again.
new season same teammate, again Stroller is making a poor figure, but luck strikes, and Perez is out..they pick a retired guy...that arrives and makes Stroll look like a tool...again the faster guy returns to retirement.
Next year looks like perez will be fired, and lancelot will get a shinny new partner!
So after 4 seasons being slower than all his 4 team mates, the stroller keeps on strollin while all the others are fired!
    Gotta love f.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Get the facts right.

In 2017, his first year in F1 Stroll only finished 3 points behind Massa with 40 points to Massa’s 43, not bad for a rookie against an almost world champion with huge experience.

The next year racing the undrivable Williams he finished he finished 5 points ahead of Sirotkin.

Last year you are right that Perez did out shine Lance in his first year at RP.

Lance has improved this year with performance equal to Perez. Although Lance has 8 points more than Perez, he has raced 2 more races due to Perez contracting Covid-19.

Massa was a 35yo ex-retired F1 driver driving for William's whom Lance was a second off Massa during qualifying. Yes, Lance was off several points against an ex-retired "has-been."

    Sirotkin.....pfft.

Then RP kicked out Ocon(better driver) for Lance's seat. Both Ocon & Perez together scored 111pts in 2018 IF you take out the administrative crap.

In 2019, Lance & Perez ONLY scored 79points for Racing Point...Perez was shy 10points of equaling his 2018 points. So Racibg Point went backwards in points in 2019 vs 2018 BECAUSE of Stroll.

So, it's 2020 and Perez has missed 2 races YET is NOW only 8pts behind Stroll. Let's see how the year ends.

    2 more things....

You do know what administration means regarding car development? That means, no updates 2 months PRIOR to administration and 1 month afterwardss.
That's what Perez & Ocon raced with.

Secondly, in 2018 going into 2019, Stroll went 14 consecutive times without advancing into Q2....in a faster car than the Williams!!!

Again, to me it seems Hulkenberg receives all the credit and Stroll none whatsoever, I think the truth is somewhere in between for both ;)

I am really not surprised both RPs were driving around in P5/6 (Hulk/Stroll) for such a long time, because the gap to P4 was never going to close (and to P7 was reasonably safe). Absolutely no incentive from a team's perspective to have your drivers race for position, especially with Albon still coming to catch you (who seems to make a habit of screwing up qualis in order to move up during the race with a much much better car).

Another way of looking at it, is that Hulkenberg destroyed an entire extra set of tires compared to Stroll & couldn't get a faster lap out of fresh Softs compared to Hamilton's worn Hards. Max was always going to win this race, so P4 was the highest position achievable. Finishing in P7 then is good, but not amazingly great.

Hulk pitted earlier than Stroll at the 70th Anniversary then Stroll pitted several laps later which is why they had to pit Hulk again due to vibrations in the tires.

Stroll followed Hulk throughout the race....Stroll was never a threat to Hulk.

LOLOLO did you actualy saw Stroll race against Massa? Some times more!!! You talk about points? Get real!!! Lancelot got lucky in a casino g.p, those were his points...by the way, his team mate was well in front of him before the car broke in that g.p.
POints may depend on luck, speed doesn't.

I am not trolling, that’s an insult, can’t someone be a Stroll fan on a Stroll thread without bing denigrated. Hopefully it will get better as people realize Lance is doing better this year.
