    Wednesday 9/14 - Report #1

    ---

Packed the car this morning, a bag each for Jennie and I, lap top, camera, extra quart of oil, extra brake pads, tire pressure gauge, and detailing supplies. I followed Jennie in the truck as we dropped at the dealer for service this weekend. I took Jennie to work and off to work for me. I hope to leave work at 4, then pick Jennie up, and then we're meeting Ron & Stephanie in their 348 North Dallas. Hope to be on the road before 6pm.

We're staying at a bed & breakfast in McAllister, OK tonight. We'll sleep in and take our time getting to Eureka tomorrow enjoying the drive. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night.

After work I picked Jennie up from work. She had a patient start dying on her at 4pm when we wanted to leave, so we didn't leave her work until 4:45. So does that mean the patient died or was saved? :):)

Through Dallas rush hour traffic we made Plano by 5:30, then Ron & Stephanie arrived shortly after. We decided to go ahead and eat and have a drink in Plano to let traffic die down a little.

Pic is at Stephanie's office showing her brother the cars.

Stayed at a neat Bed & Breakfast last night in McAlester, OK called Cornerstone Inn. 100 years old and very big and spooky. Beautiful with great antiques and the original pictures would have taken all night to thumb through. Thunderstorms all morning long.

Rained on us through most of Oklahoma, but nice and cool otherwise. Eastern Oklahoma has some beautiful scenery and lakes. Arkansas is on another level though. We went through Fort Smith and then up to Fayetteville. We stopped down at the University of Arkansas strip for a late lunch and beer at Benson's. Notice the company I attract. :D Roads really were great from Fayetteville around the North side of Beaver Lake to Eureka. Jennie was driving this entire segment and I was very confused whether to scream for her to slow down for my life or speed up for the fun of it. :D We made Eureka Springs in one piece. The Crescent Hotel is beyond belief. Very neat place even without the ghosts!

Checked in, then a open bar reception sponsored by the Bentley and Maserati dealer of St. Louis. Everyone was on their own for supper. Jennie, Ron, Stephanie, and I ate at the hotel restaurant, which is about as good as it gets.

What a drive! 100 miles of curvy elevation changing roads without a single straight away longer than a mile. You know it is fun when there are not only 50, 40, and 30 mph curve warning signs, but also 20 and 10 mph curve warning signs! Also many "VERY CROOKED AND STEEP NEXT 3 MILES". Roads are in very good condition and especially being a Friday, very little traffic. I don't think it gets any better.

Had a great meal at the winery and toured around. Jennie and I both test drove the Bentley GT. Awesome car, but a little out of our price range. :(

Took another road back up to Eureka a little farther East. Another amazing road up and through numerous mountains. Not as many "10" and "20" mph corners, but more elevation changes and scenerary. I had "fun" with a F-150 that is now legend and hopefully forgotten by all, so lets move on! :D

After breakfast drove back to Eureka Springs for a police escorted parade through the city and downtown to reserved parking. Being the weekend, downtown was packed and several people deep on both sides as we drove through town. Fun in many ways, embarrassing in others. We then spent the afternoon shopping and enjoying a few drinks on a patio overlooking the main street.

Saturday night our meal was at Whitney Mountain overlooking Beaver Lake. I rode shotgun with Ron and the girls took the 328. 62 North is yet another great road to drive.

This morning left hotel after checking out 9am. Drove 40 miles on 62 to the Pea Ridge Civil War battle field. Interesting place. Watched the film. Strange feeling to be right where thousands of Union, Confederate, and Indian soldiers lost their lives.

Said goodbye to the Kansas City crew and Texas was back on the road again.

Had a very easy trip home. Very hot, but kept a nice pace up and switching the driving with Jennie the trip went quickly. Two Ferraris seem to travel faster than one, I have money that the KC "pack" moved even faster than us. :)

I want to thank Chris, Scott, Dana, and everyone else that put this event together. It is the single best "driving" event I have ever done. Road & Track knows what they're talking about when they ranked these roads some of the Top 10 in the country. Many of us race and track, but we all commented this beats track driving. You simply have hundreds of miles of technical roads that rival any race track. The exciting part is you don't know or can't ever remember these roads, so each corner is new and you have to decide your entry line, braking point, turn in, apex, acceleration point, and track out based on very little information and that information is all instantaneously new to you. Some corners open up and you could have got on the gas more where others are VERY tricky and are decreasing radius. The roads are in excellent condition and there is very little traffic, especially on a weekday. Oh, never had a radar on me all week in the Ozarks!!!

Hope to see everyone next year. Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!
