Say it ain’t so! [emoji853] http://www.khon2.com/news/local-news/waimanalo-mansion-used-in-magnum-pi-tv-show-to-be-demolished/1102377414
Article said it was built in 1933 and given the very humid climate I’m sure that it’s easier to start fresh then try to restore rotted wood. Have a cousin that lives in Kona, had to rebuild his large deck twice in 10 years. Last time we were there it looked like it could use some TLC again.
The Magnum house is on public beach front. So you can see the beach area the show was filmed at and even swim in the tide pool or whatever its called.
I am so glad we were able to swim in the pool with the Robin’s nest estate still there...I kept in imagining Higgins on a bullhorn saying that is private property and getting Zeus and Apollo after us lol... So sad. We saw it several times and thought what a shame that the owners did not fix it up, even the tennis court was in bad shape. Now we know. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Doubt it... In the local Honolulu news they said the property was estimated at $18 millions. That is a lot of money even. I recall the property was said to be around $4.5 in 2014 or so and now they estimate it at $18 millions. Crazy those HI prices. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
$8.7M three years ago is not $18M today in the Hawai'i market, even in Waimanalo...actual sale prices have been fairly steady the past two years and they certainly haven't gone up 100% over the past three years.
Just saying... buddy of mine who is stationed there said a local reporter said the value was $18 millions. I see where Zillow does not have the property listed at $18 millions. Thank for you input. Still am sad to not see the buildings there when I return to the island. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
You have to go see it you will love it. I went in 2007 and spent almost half a day in the tidal pool.
Nicely done video and I love to accommodating music...sorry to not see the buildings in the future. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Drone video is remarkable. Was there ever a comparable drone video showing the property when it was still intact? Looks like the east side of the estate is still entact including the boathouse (although that was really a tiny thing; not the real set for Magnum accommodations). I make The Great Pilgrimage and walked their (public) waterfront when I was on Oahu a few years ago. My wife took a corny picture of me pretending to pick the gate lock, just like Magnum did.
