I love Robert De Niro. He would be a great Enzo. I can't wait to see the movie!
I agree, after Goodfellas in 1990, he's been pretty much the same character. Now,pre 1990, some amazing parts, although I'm an Al Pacino fan myself, more range in his characters.
I can think of only four Eastwood-directed films that would be considered war movies. I'm in the minority who found Rush to be a disappointment. To me, the life of Ferrari just seems better suited to Eastwood's style than Howard's. Howard's films tend to be more upbeat and optimistic, and there was some darkness in Enzo's life.
Having seen what Ron Howard did to "The Davinci Code" and "Angels and Demons" Howard would probably make Enzo boss of Lamborghini...
Did Ron Howard direct the Aviator (Howard Hughes bio pic with Dicaprio)? That was a great movie. If he did that one, I think he would be great for an Enzo pic.
How about Danny Aiello or Paul Sorvino as The Drake? Sometimes in a biography the stature of the actor can overshadow the character he's portraying. Of course, neither of them has much box office.
Also, if you saw American Hustle were he played gangster Victor Tellegio, you can see a resemblance to Mr.Ferrari. DeNiro will be great.
What ever happened to the potential movie about Gilles Villeneuve with Ferrari in the 80's? This rumor was going around several years ago, and was in casting but then the rumor went cold to dead. Now this would be a great oppertunity to make another F1 movie, having De Niro play Enzo Ferrari, Howard / Eastwood-directed it and then have someone to play Gilles Villeneuve? Thoughts?
There was lot of tragedy in Enzo's life, and some stuff that shall we say were not really very politically correct for today's world. I wonder how accurate it will be. I didn't like how Rush portrayed Enzo at all. It was like he didn't exist or didn't care.
I think if Eastwood is the director he'll insist on authenticity. Howard took a lot of liberties in "A Beautiful Mind" and "Rush." I have no idea how much script control he had, though. Rush was full of disappointments for me, probably because I had such high hopes for it.
During the Chinese GP broadcast on NBC Sports last Sunday Leigh Duffy announced the plans for the movie with DeNiro playing Enzo.
