Looking to take a road trip from NYC to Newport RI in my F430 spider and wanted to avoid 95 as much as possible. I know I can take the Merritt to New Haven. From New Haven to Newport it looks a little difficult. Any recommendations?

See if you can get onto route 1 in new haven and take route one into Rhode Island then get onto route 4 and in south kingstown get onto 138 which will bring you to Jamestown then go right over the bridge into newport.

There is a Ferrari friendly place called "The Spot" on Rt 1 in Groton that might be a convenient stopping point for lunch or refreshment while on the way. This is Dan's introduction to his place from a couple of months ago:

PS: Don't be thrown off by the "North Eastern Connecticut" description, Groton is along the coast, right on the very long portion of Rt 1 North where you are really heading basically due East.

    New England introduction

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear Ferraristi,

My name is Dan and I just recently moved back to North Eastern Connecticut with my family. I have taken over my family business (bar/restaurant) in the Groton/Mystic area.

I was formerly employed in Dallas by Boardwalk Ferrari as the assistant service manager, concourso director and Challenge team technical and logistics manager. I was fortunate enough to travel and work all over the U.S. With Level 5, the red white and blue car and most recently the yellow on black 458 car of Mr. Taylor. I was also part of Boardwalks Classiche program on procurement and liaison between us and FNA/SpA.

That being said, I would like to be a stop or destination for local events. I can fit about 30 cars in front of my building in an area separate from the larger lot.

We are located on route 1 in Groton that leads into Mystic/Stonington. We are The Spot Cafe on 11 Buddington Road. We have a full outside covered patio and bar. We will be doing Buffett concert nights and other brewery events at the patio bar all summer.

With this I will offer all you fchatters and FCA members special pricing for food and drink at a any time.

I can be reached at 860-961-2173 24 hours a day. If you have any questions, or need me to look over a car don't hesitate to call on me. This community has been very good to me and I will return the favor.

    Cheers!

    Dan B

Thanks for the plug Ashman!! Which ever route you take, enjoy the ride! We aren't going anywhere.

Anyone going up to Montreal for the Canadian GP? My wife and I will be heading up Saturday through Sunday. Gonna go poke around the paddock and see some old friends.

If you have not been, I highly recommend it.

    Cheers!

    Dan

Unless you want to stop at every single F*ing stop light I'd suggest route 80 out of New Haven (I-91 exit ?8?) at least until Guilford/Madison. Better yet, all the way to Route 9 South where you'll connect with Route 1 over the CT river. Much nicer more forested ride with better roads to stretch out a little. Post Road (route 1) will make you crazy.

Do you want to be off I-95 for any reason other than the horrible road surface? Once you clear the bridge in NH (under const) the surface is not bad.

Dan...I promise I'm coming to say hi one of these days.
