I agree with the spirit of all your comments, but I don't really agree that this discussion is forcing religion down somebody's throat. The entire purpose of this thread is to discuss a "religion" (of sorts), and we won't have an effective discussion if people mince words. I couldn't agree less with the endorsers of hacking, but I've learned from their comments and perspectives. I hope the opposite is also true.

Many of us are trying to live up to the ideals to the extent we can -- restoring and maintaining our cars as faithfully as possible. I've gone to extreme lengths to preserve (rather than replace) everything that can possibly be preserved. When I do need a part, sometimes it takes years to find it, but the satisfaction in finally finding it outweighs the agony of waiting so long. When that is the philosophy you have about your own car, it's difficult to find a way to feel remotely comfortable about anybody hacking these cars up.

Cars that are already hacked I don't have an issue with and I will happily talk to owners of those vehicles without any animosity. Choosing to hack a non-totalled car now, I will never get philosophically. I understood why it was done when the cars had little value, but I don't understand why it would be done now when original cars are worth more than most fakes.

I like that we have had opposing views, expressed passionately, and yet it has remained 100% civil. We all learn from these discussions, even if it doesn't change our opinion, we might understand others' opinions better.

I do not feel comfortable with it but it is the lesser of evils given the desires some here have stated. Individual freedom is far more valuable than any Ferrari yet some would gladly trade.

Sorry, I just do not have it in me to be such a tyrant just because I have a different view of others choices.

I will clarify my previous comment.
I'm glad that there's more awareness of the merits and historical significance of the GTE now, a car that did not always get its due.
I'm glad that when something terrible happens, as in the case of someone cannibalizing 2709, that the majority of people now have the sense to respond with outrage at the stupidity of this destruction.

Basically the cultural heritage act bans export by sale. In practise a permit is required. Permits are usually granted as socialists have not manned every office in the country (yet).

If you buy it, you own it. Do as you will with it. Park it, drive it, wash it, chop it, sell it for parts..it's your car. Please don't ever tell me what I should do with an object I purchased. I'll set the damn thing on fire if I want.

Maybe I should buy a GTE and turn it into a replica corvette? Or a replica Fiero?

Unfortunatelly some of us don't have the money to save and preserve just one of them. I'st sad to see others who have the big money buy them and destroy them. They have *unfortunatelly* the right to do it, but others have the right to say what they want.

This one popped up in our neck of he woods...330 rebody
    1965 Ferrari 330GTO Rebody - $628,000 | WeLoveCoolCars.com

    Off topic somewhat

And you never know what might be just around the corner in your small home town-like a very real and well known GTO that paid a visit this year. This was in a one man shop just a few miles from home in Clemson, SC. Stunned....very talented restorer who moved South a few years ago. What a privilege to have seen this....if I needed body work done, this is the man, and reasonable.

Ok. Good for you. But please do not tell me how sorry you are about the fact that there are people who actually care and try to make things better. And live and learn, there are always nice and interesting things we have not yet discovered, and being destructive is not a good thing.

I do not belive a word you say, that is what I would call irresponsible behavior.
I am sure there are other things to destroy, if that's what makes you happy.

Now as I am relatively new in here, I must be mistaken, but I think that if you talked to me like that in a pub, I would say that you are really hard trying to pick a fight! :D

Please tell me what I could do that would be against your morale and seriosly upset you.
Just so that I would feel that we are even, ok? Please allow me to try.

I went picking mushrooms yesterday, with my son, and we picked the mushrooms from woods that we do not own. :) no reaction?!? (Oh, it's perfectly acceptable and legal over here)

Ok, after that I used firewood to heat some water for washing and doing the dishes after the Spaghetti con Porcini we just did from the fresh mushrooms, and also heated a sauna, in which we bathed NAKED! :D and then I went and swam several times in a rather cold lake, again NAKED, despite the fact that I know that the fish pee in the water, and I even drink that water, unfiltered. Discusting, huh? Nope, we've been doing that for many, many generations.

And I bet you have no idea how FREE I fealt. :D Huh, still no reaction.

Ok, I give up. You win!

    Cheers,

    Pekka T.
    Fin.

Ps. But I still kindly and naively do hope no-one can actually be so stupid as to burn a Classic Ferrari, only because they can. Maybe I will need to form that CFP party after all, and then gain global domination so I can have it my way, muaaahhhaahhhaaaahhaaa!!! :D

I am so sorry. I think I must have put my words wrong.

I don't think you want to start a serious discussion about:

    1. Individual freedom

I am sure you think I am totally repressed by the evil governments, who actually are there for us and run by the people we elect, but now I feel more sorry for you, as I am begining to believe you need to know more about freedom. Like I wrote earlier, listen to a few good Zappa albums, read some Plato, Descartes and Goethe and think about what humanity means and what we can learn from each other.

Individual freedom and classic Ferraris are not against each other, actually I think they really support one another. You do not have to destroy one, just because you can.

    2. Tyrant

No, you are no tyrant in my view. But neither am I. We just have very different views on how things should be run, that's it, no more, no less.

    Peace, man! Ok? :)

    Hi,

    You wish!

I find this really amusing. (NOT!)

Here we have all sorts of people willing to burn cars and shoot strangers, but although I kindly asked with a PM at least one or two fchatters to tell me where I had crossed a line and how, I did not get any (PM) response, or private e-mail, but apparently some of my messages have now been removed from this discussion. ?!?? By whom and why?

I have no idea who are forum mods and who are not.

Did I not read some rules somewhere? I think I did.

I feel that my right to free speech has already been reduced in such a way that I will most likely not be posting again here.

What's the point of telling my opinion if I get bullied and attacked and if I try to defend my views I get sensored?!?

Never happened to me on any other forum, so I know now as a fact that we are not equal.

If it is "ok" for some to use rude words, offend others and use force, but it is "not ok" for individuals like me, to point that out, or to defend myself against clear attacks.
And I just thought we were finally getting somewhere. :(

So is this what "freedom" is about? If it is, you can keep it.

Yes, thank you. The respect for Classic Ferraris, the restraining from destroying Classic Ferraris and using rude words and the wisdom that models and colour combinations that may not seem (financially) worth saving right now in some people's minds, might still be highly valued in the bright future.

I think I even tried to explain here in one of my deleted messages why I always appreciated and desired a GTE (in addition that I possibly could have afforded one) or a later 2+2, but I see now that it was of no interest to the people who are active in this forum. How silly of me.

I still enjoy reading the threads in here, but I do know now, that my opinions are not wanted (or allowed) or appreciated here. Thank you for pointing that out. And Goodbye!

The Politics and Religion forum was created here specifically to keep this crap out of the other forums. A clear warning was given to stop posting political commentary in this thread, and yet you've chosen to ignore that warning. For this, you've received a 1 week ban. When you return, I suggest you either avoid this thread altogether or take more care in crafting your comments.

As for your cries about freedom of speech, there is no freedom of speech here. This is a privately-owned message board and speech is regulated according to the rules set forth by the site owner/administrator. If you feel the need to express your political views, then either do so in the P&R forum that we've set up expressly for that purpose, or start your own message board and feel free to post on it whatever you like.

No, not worked up about anything. Can't say that about some others though. I just never get the desire of some to force their way of thinking on others.

I don't like the cars getting cut up but not my choice to make one way or the other, nor should it be. Passing a law every time someone does something we don't like isn't the answer either.

Let's just say that although somebody who owns a rare Ferrari has the right to do what they like with it, those who choose to chop it up and turn it into a pretend something else, are vandals of the lowest order.

It's my right to say to say so, and I do.
