    Hi all, I am looking at a car (512 TR) and the speedo and rev counter seemed a little slow. Now, I know none are perfect, but this just seemed like more then the norm. Is this something that can be fixed? I can live with a speedo reading a tad slow, but the slow rev counter would bother me.

    Thanks.

    If the error is relatively small there are correction devices on the market to correct the reading. The one I use was written up a while back in the 308 section. Here is an example but not the one in the write up which I recommend;

    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/motorcycle/Speedometer%20Calibration

    If the error is large it may suggest a wrong sender or a replacement speedometer sometime in its past or even a face change (example 80 mph face change or km to mph). Best luck getting it sorted. There are speedometer threads galore in the 308 section with new circuit boards for the speedometers being made by an fchatter.
    Most speedometer calibrators like the one above are usually found in motorcycle supplies.

    They have these for the rev counter too? Can't click the links on my phone...

    My friend claims his dealer fixed a lazy rev counter years ago on his neighbors 355, but couldn't remember anything beyond that...

    By rev counter do you mean the tachometer?

    Adrian and a few others have detailed the inner workings of the tachometers. There is even new tachometer boards that replace our failing ones. I have one installed in my tach and have installed it in another's tach as well. They are calibratable. I suggest you PM Adrian after reading over this thread;

    Also I might just add that having both instruments go ing weird at the same time seems more indicative of a systemic issue. Maybe a bad ground? I had similar sluggish gauge response until I added an extra ground to the cluster as a whole.

    Thank you for the ideas. Ground check first, then possibly repairs...

    What is up with these electric speedos? Noticed stopped at red light the odometer moves (records) sometimes.

    That is not right. Get it looked at, it should not be recording miles when you are not moving...

    That is a new one. You mean as you are stopped it adds miles to your odometer?

    Must be some truth to the saying that Ferraris look like they are going fast even when standing still.

    I don't know, but if I had any car and the odometer kept on going when I stopped I would get that thing fixed ASAP…

    I've never heard of such a thing, has anybody else?

    The lazy gauges, or the issue with the moving odometer above?

    It is an easy fix. I have a a guy that rebuilds clusters and gauges I send all that stuff too. Usually costs about 75 bucks to fix.

    If it's only the ODO which keeps moving then that's a bit strange as Speedo and ODO are driven by the same small motor in type 2/3 Speedos :)

    Best,

    The Speedo itself is self calibrating, based on the incoming pulses from the gearbox sensor. You can readjust the displayed speed by removing the needle and reinstalling it though.

    The rev counter can be easily calibrated with a square wave generator, there is a small potentiometer on the circuit board which allows readjusting it. Not sure about Speedo Shops on the east coast, you might want to pm board member 'Strictly Ferrari', he is also based in Florida.
