Actually Marc, if you want, or have, to use public transportation these days in Paris with the Covid scare, your best bet is getting up early and take the bus (granted, you need to be familiar with the lines, itineraries, etc..). I usually take the bus now to get to work, between 7h15 and 7h30: three or four persons in the bus maximum, safety distances maintained, no sweat.
More complicated to come back in the evening, of course; I usually do it by foot, but my office and my flat are close, only a 22 minutes walk.
As for retromobile, I do think they should postpone it. I know it's not an easy decision, but I doubt they would have many visitors atthe beginning of February; that is slightly too early to hope for an "Omicron" decrease; we are "about three weeks behind the U.K", and the decrease has not started there yet.

I have not been in a Paris bus for 30 years and found them moving too slowly then, let alone now...I walk(ed) a lot in Paris in the past (once from Neuilly to jardin des plantes how is that:)) but in this case would just choose a hotel in the 15th arrondissement walking distance from the show. In any case postponement announcement should come any day now, hopefully for June any earlier would be idiotic.

The buses actually go really fast nowadays, thanks to our Mayor, Ha! Buses now have reserved lanes, so early in the morning...much faster than even the "tube".
well, "early in the morning" = "Early" for Paris, that is! Deep into the country, "early" is about 4:00 in the morning, which would be "late in the night" for Paris...
Well: let's say: 7:00 to 7:15 in the morning, then the bus takes 8 minutes from the nearest station close to my flat to the office's door: unbeatable, really. Even the cabs (taxis) do not manage it.
Now, should you be in your own car...then: another matter entirely.

I would never doubt what you said but you certainly were very unfortunate to be so close to these events....

All very interesting. Basically TGV (first class if you want to sit properly) works fine, until you arrive at one of these 'Gares'. Then you're confronted with an audience you may not fancy, which includes metros, busses, and taxis. So you drive your car, and park it in one of the many (often old, small, and smelly) underground parking houses. Avoid parking out on the street at any cost. Maybe one of these Honda Goldwing taxis is an alternative?

What's the point of going if many of the most interesting participants have pulled out. March would not make much sense, omicron will still be there. I'm not impressed by Macron, but in this instance I fully agree with him, antivaxers should not rule the world.

As I mentioned June would be perfect, a much nicer time to be in Paris but before the July August summer tourist crowds.

In about 3 weeks this show is supposed to start. The organizers are apparently not in a rush to inform the public if it is still on or not.
If I were a participant, I would not be amused by this stance.

We'll see how the situation will evolve - 2021 was delayed to June and then it was cancelled... so March 2022 might as well be postponed or cancelled :(

5 weeks delay will make zero difference with Omicron and all other viruses.
It would be so much better to simply wait another year (yes, I know, that costs money).

Not to mention that Essen show starts the following week and RM has an auction scheduled there as well.

They take place inside the show so they have no choice and they would lose most of their audience if they did not.

Doubt the other two will reschedule, we shall see.

As expected Bonhams, February 3rd, and RM Sotheby's February 2nd, are not rescheduling but sticking to their original dates.

Last year Artcurial did not postpone after the initial re-scheduling of Retromobile (which was eventually cancelled) for June - this year they probably bet that Retromobile will actually happen in March. It's a bold bet, but still possible since with Omicron the situation may change very rapidly.

TGV access is now strictly controlled so this would not happen today. I take TGV & metro every week and never had any issue, TGV when it works is the best a fastest way to travel.

On another note, Kidston has NOT cancelled Retromobile.

If anybody is still hesitating to come to the rescheduled Retromobile March 26-20 FYI restrictions in France are lowered as of today with the clear proof that Omicron is much less dangerous. Even nightclubs are opening tonight -which I do think is a bit premature-.

I will be there most likely the first two days but I draw the line at transportation: no metro or buses, taxi only.
Yes hard to avoid crowded moments at the train station and at the show, I might take a hotel in the very boring direct neighborhood of the show contrary to my routine of one off rue De Rivoli but I am triple vaxxed and you have to go forward.
