    Hey Guys!

Newbie to the forum and to Ferraris in general. I'm finally ready to get one as an extra weekend car and I found this gorgeous red 360 Modena around my area for pretty cheap.

The car has 27k miles, 2001, red exterior and black/tan interior. The dealership said they replaced every button in the car that sticks, it had belt changed about a year ago and clutch life has around 60% left.

It is being sold at $59,900 which is the lowest I've seen around the midwest area.

However, the only problem I see is that Carfax says there is mileage inconsistency. Miles went down about 200 miles at one point.

How does this effect resell value down the road when I want to sell the car? Is there a way to fix this? The salesperson said there is a way they can prove it thru the ecu reading but I'm not sure if Carfax does fixes.

I've attached the Carfax to show what it says.

Love to hear from you guys.

    George

This car has had nine owners and the inconsistency happened nine years ago. There is a very good chance someone just put in the wrong numbers. Carfax is not perfect and I have found a lot more things about cars (like accidents) that never showed up on a Carfax report. You are buying this car pretty cheap, and I doubt this will effect resale at the price you are paying. It would not bother me, though I'd have the car checked out just to be sure there are no other things Carfax my not be correct about. Just to be clear the words Ferrari & cheap never seem to fit well together. Good luck.

Wouldn't worry about it. Most likely a rounded number, error or fat finger. If it was 2000 miles, I may be more concerned, but 200? Nah.

Thanks, guys appreciate the responses. I'm curious when you go into the dealership, did they verify you had the means to purchase the Ferrari? If so what is their expectation? Or is it just like any other dealership?

I would be paying cash...personal check ok or only cashiers check? Would I have to get one done ahead of time?

You know what you're getting into, right? That "the cheapest Ferrari is the most expensive Ferrari"?

I don't know this car's particulars. Would just hate for someone to be excited about finally getting into one of these and then having it turn into a nightmare.

Make sure you get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done before you buy so you understand what you're getting into.

I've been researching 360s for over a year now, yes I know what I'm getting into. It's the resell value of the mileage inconsistency and how to actually buy one is what I'm foreign with. :)

Did you already fight the dealership’s champion and last at least 10 minutes to prove you’re worthy of Ferrari ownership? After that point I found the buying experience to be pretty much the same as any other brand. :)

Along these same lines, I'm looking at a Carfax on a 458 that has a "mileage inconsistency" as follows:

3/28/14 5,114 miles Vehicle offered for sale
4/08/14 51,213 miles Registered w/ CA Dept Motor Vehicles
2/16/15 6,252 miles Vehicle offered for sale

In this case the discrepancy is so large (no way the owner drove it 46,099 miles in less than two weeks) it seems obvious to me that there's a clerical error. A PPI should easily confirm that there's not 50k miles of wear and tear on this car, however, like the OP, I'm concerned about this hiccup hindering resale value. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Someone added a "3" at 5121 miles, would get that cleared up though, if you can, or future resale.
You are concerned, someone else will probably be also. On the other hand pretty obvious it is an error....but those Ferrari buyers are a picky bunch.

    Are you getting a PPI?

Most definitely will get a PPI. But since I really need to negotiate an initial price ahead of a PPI, I'm trying to figure out if future buyers will expect this car to be priced lower than an equiv. spec'd 458 w/out the mileage issue. I think Zcobra1 said it best - if I'm concerned, someone else will probably be also.

Regarding the PPI, good. Wishful thinking by typing 458, huh :)

Others said 200 miles is nothing and I agree. You can also make your offer contingent on a clean PPI, so there'll always be a way out of the deal. Regarding the 200 mile discrepancy, I wouldn't sweat it... especially if the car is really awesome, checks out mechanically and you can get it for a great price. I agree with others that someone somewhere fat-fingered the keyboard years ago.

Good luck... the 360 was one of my favorite cars through the years.

I would not worry about it since according to the Carfax it was based on a "online listing", not a Dept. Motor Vehicles, dealer, or other more reliable source. If I was buying, would not think twice about it.

You are sweating a very minor inconsistency that isn't even assured to be factual. On cars this old it is ALL about condition. Shop for condition and this issue shouldn't even move the needle.

If all else checks out I would hardly worry about that.

Definitely a clerical error/fat finger issue. It's not like we're talking about an odometer rollback or reset.

And as mentioned, it happened almost 10 years ago.

Thats stupid, its obvious a for sale listing people screw up numbers on titles all the time just guessing.

    Carfax is utter garbage.

I must be lucky with my local DMV, always fast with appointments, 5 minutes max for help.
Quick, efficient, and friendly with numerous out of State cars that needed inspection/vin checks, personalized plates, etc., so for me no complaints from the local DMV with a appointment.....

And this is a busy high density population DMV. Lines around the building with no appointment.....

Thanks for everyone's timely input. I ultimately went with another 458 that was closer to my desired spec. My takeaway is that the Carfax is not a be all end all document since it can often contain errors. Rather it is a starting point to learn about a car which can help you ask the right questions.
