After 5 years of owning a Red/Tan Spider, it has been one of the most exciting cars to own. Red was not my first choice (yellow was) , but as you all know, a Ferrari has to be red :)

Anyway, I am looking for a daliy driver so I found a Red/Tan 2007 Cabriolet "S". There seems to be far fewer red 997s and I am curious to know if it will hurt my resale as I would sell it after 3 years.

I was trying to post on 6speedonline, but some adminstrator needs to activate my account or something. It has been 3 days :(

    Thanks for the input.

Porsche does get a better resale on older 930 turbos in guards red.
But on newer 996 and 997, resale is soft on Guards red.

Blk and grey are the best for resale if I remember correctly.

6 speed does take a long time, some times a few weeks

Nah, Silver is best for re-sell (the pseudo-official color for German race cars).....but Red is OK. But don't get either the beige or gray interiors....they get killed. Get black or something unique (I have Boxster Red, a terracotta color). And don't get wood, get carbon fiber accents.

    Oops, I see you're looking at a beige interior.......ouch.

honestly, its a passion color...one where people search for exactly that car combo, or will purposefully avoid it...that said, red porsches havent been tanking as much as some of the other more standard colors...but not enough to where there is a really noticeable difference...sorry for the confusing answer...

Red is now the fifth most popular color for new cars, apparently. White is now number one, with silver in number two. Based on new Ferraris and Porsches, I think red is on an "out" cycle in terms of popularity -- lots of metallics out there.

But... buy what you like. I don't think red is going to kill resale. It will get you more police attention, which is why I stopped buying red cars in 1990.

It can also work to your benefit not to be a lemming when it comes to color. How many silver 996s/997s are out there? Half a million? It's staggering. When I bought my Ferrari, I specifically went for black metallic, because (a) it's my favorite, and (b) I can actually find my car at Ferrari events.

In fact, if I were ordering a new 997, I'd get the black metallic -- very close to the color of my 328 and it looks great.

Silver / grey are the most popular (P-car) colors from what I have seen. <Yawn> Oh wait, mine is grey! lol But I didn't have a choice, honest!

I agree red/tan is not the current popular color for Porsche.

BUT...red/tan will always be a popular sports car color........"colors of the day" will come and go........but don't underestimate the staying power of "resell red" on any sports car!! :)

    Go Guards Red!! lol

    I have a red 928, a blue Boxster, and a black 930...

The red on the 928 looks more "sportscar-like" than any of the other colors I own. Now that you mention it, you don't really see a lot of red Porsches running around anymore...in the 80s, they were everywhere...

I saw a Guards Red 997tt at a dealership a few months back, and I thought it was stunning...especially with the black interior.

Go look at one in person. I don't think that red will kill your resale...

I had a Red/Black 996TT cab and I thought it looked great; however, there were not that many like it on the street. I think red is still popular with sports car fans, but Porsche has migrated to to a much larger customer base that is not as comfortable with red in terms of attention or fast resale. Also red is not as popular in general as many buyers have gone monochromatic (black, gray, silver, white); which I think will start to swing back as people get bored and frustrated not being able to find their car in a sea of like cars (note the recent rise in orange). Net, I think you take a slight risk with red, but if you give it a few years you would have a more desirable car since everything else will be silver.

Ah, good feedback guys...Much appreciated. I think I am going to pull the trigger. It is a personal choice. If you look on Autotrader.com their is a billion silver, black, and gray 997s. Very few red 997s.

I will have this car for about 3 years and just did not want to be the jacka.. with his foot resting on the front wheel, saying "isn't this a purdy color".

It clearly sounds that it will not kill me on the resale market.

    Thanks Mates.

Shark, I am open to input. No good on the sand interior? Honestly it was not my first choice, buuut, the car has the Porsche Sports Ehaust, 19" turbo wheels, Bose, Navi, and full lether.

Tell me more on the sand interior.

Sorry to be doing 3 posts in a row on my own thread :)

Last question: Since I want a Cab wouldn't a black interior be too hot with the top down ?

Do you recall back when Porsche really was the leader of the weird color craze on expensive sports cars in the olden days?

Things like Tangerine, weird Yellow-Greens, Purples (I think they called it Aubergine), etc.

Also, an oddity that was very common back in the carb 911/912 days was a light desert tan. I guess for people who were fans of Erwin Rommel.

Their interiors could get pretty weird, too - remember those black and white Twilight Zone - looking cloth seats; some of the 928 special cars even had this on the door panels.

Well, I nearly bought a small wool hounds-tooth check on one of my 911s, but that 928/944 stuff think made my head spin all the way around like Linda Blair on steroids.

But, I will confess that my first one was Tangerine and my girlfriend Denise the art student nearly left me over it.

That's one of the funniest things that I have read in quite awhile! Thanks a lot for the much needed laugh. Acura had a color for their '97-'00 NSX called "Kaiser Silver Metallic", lol! I guess Porsche could've dubbed their hue, "Der Desert_Fuchs Metallisch"... :D

    On topic...

A trend I noticed regarding late-model Porsches: just about all of the reds ones I've encountered have generally tended to be cabrio's!

Speed yellow isn't too rare now. I think you're right, people are getting bored with silver. I was looking at BMW color chart last year and half of it was shades of grey -- almost like resale was the only real priority.

Given color cycles, I wouldn't worry about red for resale.

I remember black was an optional color.

Great choice. You will luv it. No down side that I can see.

Red with tan has been an easy seller for me several times. I try to keep my cars very nice (so they are easier to sell of course) but I have never had a problem selling a red/cashmere 911 in any case (1991 911 turbo - 1995 993 coupe). So much so that when I was shopping for the next 911 I went with Guards Red again. However on this one the cashmere or natural leather escaped me. On a Boxster my wife preferred white (and I agree that white is the best color for a Boxster). So that is what she got!

I almost went Red/Tan and my son convinced me to go Red/Black and I have to agree it looks better (to my eye). If you are in Socal or Las Vegas, then a black interior is death, but in Norcal, there's only an issue a couple of months a year. Basically, I found that even for those hot days, if you put the top up when you leave it, then the black is just warm when you get in and then put the top down. If you let it get hot in the sun with the top down and then get in, it's hard to sit on the seat or hold the wheel for the first 10-15 minutes until it cools down with the air flow, particularly with shorts on. But letting the leather get that hot is probably not good for it, so again just put the top up to protect it.
