A quick question. I may have to replace my fuel sender in my gas tank. Service manual says it is on the right tank passenger side. This is on a 1974 246 GTS euro spec left hand drive car. Mine is on the drivers side tank and it does not appear to be enough room to replace the sender with the tank in place. Pictures below. Appreciate any thoughts on this little project.

To replace the sender you must remove the fuel tank or you will not be able to navigate out the float and the arm. The new manufacture senders are different and adjustable in height so you will want to take reference measurements to make sure the float starts at the correct height. Both tanks are removable with the engine in place and it is a good time to replace every hose related in the system for safety.

I believe it may be possible to change if the air cleaner is removed.
Lift stright away up vertical then turn at pivot to pull floated end out

Please take care with the index of the sender when you remove it - your photos are great for this as the tank is small and the float is the pivot that ONLY can install ONE way.
One rotation off and your sender float will hit the wall half way down and indicator stopped at half full.

Check your hoses as Nuvolari recommends. E10 fuel is aggressive to rubber based products beware cheap hoses as well and misleading claims of E50 compliant hoses, most of fakes from China. Ask me how i know.

Apologies for poor photo quality but these were on my car for only 3 months!!

Not sure if the situation has got worse or better Rob, these hoses where purchased a few years ago and I believe a lot of old stock braided fuel hose was sold a compliant to modern fuels when in actual fact it wasnt plus a lot of copy cat fakes on the market as well. Beware rebranded hoses, I was even supplied fake Codan hoses.

Thankfully the hoses on my car have lasted much longer now. Not sure if braided hoses are now avaialble but i chose hoses without the braid cover

Perfect replacement, these are SAE30R14 low pressure hoses, might be easier to get SAE 30R9 hp hoses. Only difference is R9 hoses is for fuel injected cars which is fine for carb cars but not the other way around.
Make sure the inner liner is NBR FKM (Viton)

Just a note on replacing my fuel sender in my 246 GTS. I was able to purchase an endoscope that connects to my iPhone and let you see areas where you can’t see by site. I was able to snake the endoscope down my fuel filler to look at what was going on Inside my gas tank with my fuel center float. Picture is enclosed. It shows my fuel sender working perfectly after I replaced it. Technology is truly amazing. You can purchase one of these on Amazon or about 40 bucks.
