So my Auto button on the center gearbox control dash (located together with the Reverse and LC buttons) has MELTED! It simply sank in and disintegrated when I pressed it. I am told that this is a common problem facing F cars in tropical climates.

What is ridiculous is that the cost to replace that button (seems like there is no single button replacement have to replace whole panel) is USD 3560!!!!

I am not going to pay US$3.5k just for a lousy plastic button. Can anyone help me think of a cheaper solution to this please? If anyone has any leads as to where I can get just the auto button it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks !!

My guess is your button is rubber. If it's hard plastic, we can refinish it. Some 360 CS, 430's and 599's had rubber buttons that disintegrate. We are working on a solution but it's a low priority and expensive project.

Please send me an email and I will see what we can do for you.

There's a whole centre console (with carbon) on fleabay for £995, shows image including all switches and it says it includes all switches, although in brackets only lists 4 of the switches by name. Would be worth contacting seller to at least clarify if the switch you need is indeed in there, or available?

Most likely it's a rubber button. Something looks off with your R button too.

    It's just an on/off switch.

If ya don't wanna fork out for an OEM/OER switch, then find a suitable replacement and adapt it.

The micro switch is under the button and likely will still work. The rubber button flexs to actuate the switch. If the button is removed, one can still actuate the switch but it's less than pretty or convenient

We have yet to personally come across rubber buttons on 430's - all we have gotten so far hard hard plastic and we refinish them just fine.

OP's car I believe is a euro (since it has L.C.)

It's weird cos the R and LC button are hard plastic. Not sure why the Auto button is rubber? Anyone know of a quick fix for this?

If you know anyone with a 3D printer, make your own button. That's what I did with my F430 R button. It, too, disintegrated just like your auto button. I can't believe no one in the aftermarket has made just the switches.

As you can see in the photo there is some wear on the R but the switch itself is still good. The auto button is starting to bubble but that will be the next owner's problem. The owner between me and Chicago Motor Cars put 7K miles on the car in 8 months. I traded it in Feb 2016 with 13K on it and the switches and console were in excellent condition.

To do that, you need a 3D model. To make the model, you need a good button to reverse engineer. I posted a 3D button we did in the 599 link

Because projects like this are very time consuming and expensive to develop for a very small return.

I don't understand this. Is the picture after or before you had a button made. Is this the current state of the car?

And, I've never seen a photo that has screamed for our services as much as this one :D :) :)

I wonder what causes that problem.. Maybe too much exposure in the sun?

First, the rubber material is not something that a coating will stick to so that is the first issue.

Second, in order for the button to flex properly, it has a very think cross section that tears over time and once the tear starts, crumbling follows.

What is stopping you machining up a plastic button and fitting the micro switch under it, not seen one apart so i dont know the arrangement

Let me know how that works out.

It's more than a hard button, a housing is needed to so the button can stroke to actuate the switch. I'm try and post pics of hard button assemblies.

Mine are rubber (08 430 Scud). I'm sure they are used in some other capacity and can be sourced. They remind me of buttons used on factory machines and heavy equip.
