I have a 2002 360 which I bought in March. The car had 700 miles on it and is pretty much mint (I've done all the service to get everything up to date). The interior is flawless, apart from a 1" vertical scratch in the middle of the brushed aluminum door pocket panel on the driver's side door. It's not deep and is pretty thin (probably 1/32"), but I notice it every time I get in and out of the car. Is there anything that I can do to repair or improve the appearance of literally this one interior flaw?

    Brian -

I only offer this with EXTREME caution... some of our kitchen trim is brushed aluminum, and it scratches far too often. I have found that using "Bar Keepers Friend" (looks like Comet, but very gentle) works wonders.

If you try this on your car, PLEASE test in a very very inconspicuous area, because I have no idea what type of finish/clear Ferrari might have used on the surface of those parts.

Thanks Daniel. I don't think I'll even try that because the scratch is too deep to think about bringing the material down on either side of it. I really need to fill in the scratch to raise the level. Even some silver metallic paint might do the trick to improve it by 75% if I can get a similar color....

Depending on the assembly number of his car, he's either at $1K -- or much above $1k. Either way, it's pretty expensive.

If originality isn't a huge concern, I'd suggest carbon fiber might be a reasonable alternative from one of the Fchat sponsors

Do you have a picture of the part/scratch. A good machine shop could refinish the piece. most aluminum interior pieces are usually anodized, so it would have to be replated, but at a cost of $1k to replace, it might be a resonable alternative

    Just a thought...
Alsa Corp. has a lot of stick-on foils including brushed Alum.
Perhaps they would have something you could apply over the panel?
A lot of those films can be applied with soapy water and a squeege using a heat gun to form it.

They are pretty good about sending-out samples.

The piece you are referring to might look "brushed", but it is indeed painted. Depending on the assembly number, it could either be the earlier, lighter colored, "rough" finish, or it could be the slightly darker, later, smoother finish. My 2000 has the more rough finish. I had a huge gouge in the center console. After some research, I took it off of the car and sent it to Premier in L.A. I sent it to them on Monday, and my Friday afternoon it was on my doorstep with the gouge filled in and it was repainted the exact same shade and texture (roughness). It was perfect, and the price was unbelievably cheap. They said that people send in their center console and door panels (which are a matched set) to be repainted, all the time.
    Hope this helps.

Another product worth experimenting with is various grades of "sanding" type Scotchbrite pads...that is what I saw a sheetmetal guy use to finish ss with.

I have used it on the fridge, dishwasher, and stove. Works like a champ.

Yeah, this is a funny thread - these are indeed painted! No rubbing, sanding, anodizing, or anything like that will help. If you're skilled at paint touch-ups, you might be able to fix it yourself, otherwise send it to Premier like Softwaredrone says.

Good product. You could use it with extremely fine steel wool running with the direction of the brush pattern. We keep our stainless kitchen sink looking new this way.

Does anyone know how I can contact Premier, i.e. email, website, phone number? Thank you for your help.

Thanks for all the responses to this - I've been off-line for the weekend so I haven't responded. The scratch is not bad enough to warrant replacing the panel, and certainly not bad enough to refit the car in carbon fiber. I'll try to get a picture with a macro lens so you can see the scope of the "problem." It's pretty minor. I will look at it again with the knowledge that it is a painted surface. Perhaps I could get some touch-up paint from Premier (or maybe even my local dealership), mask off around it and touch it up with the aid of some Langka. It is definitely small enough that that might just do the trick. Pictures to follow within a couple of days. If I think I can make it work, I'll take pictures and do a write-up if anybody cares. -Brian
