I want to have the calipers on my 599 painted. I remember Taz did this a couple of years ago when he replaced calipers on his 575. Terry -- where did you get the Ferrari decals for them? Have you had any issues e.g. decals peeling off because of heat?

I've had calipers painted and powder coated, and powder is definitely more durable and looks better long term.

Josh Hill @ ECS arranged the powder coating and the decals for my 550, then I asked him to finish them off with one coat of clear on top, just to ensure the decals stayed put.

Here's an auction for the black decals: Ferrari Brake Caliper Decals Stickers New

The yellow in this pic is not the true color - they're actually a bit "yellower" than this, if that makes sense? Almost, but not quite the yellow of the shields.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to see if I can get them powder coated locally here in San Diego as painting would be about 1K, so the up increment is not all that great. I've ordered the decals from Ebay as well.

Don- Standard two part automotive paint works fine unless the car is tracked extensively. Mine were painted Giallo Modena, PPG 84028, decals applied, and then a coat of clear coat over that. I picked up 50 or 60 brake decals off the internet to find the correct size. I used 4" Ferrari decals on the front and I think the originals were 2.5" or 3". Let me know what size you need and I may have spares you can have for free. I have enough of them to plaster a wall in the house, except Jan would kill me. Goggling Ferrari brake decals or just brake decals gets a lot of hits. Except for the black calipers, all the OEM decals were black.

    Other calipers colors were:

    Rosso Corsa PPG 75250
    Rosso Scuderia PPG 905389
    Argento Metallizato PPG 36520

I wouldn't rely on the decals holding up...I got a stencil set off eBay and painted in the "Ferrari" logo with high heat paint and then finished them off with a clear coat.

I did things a little different by giving the calipers on my 355 the Carbon Fibre look by dipping them and then painting the logo in Silver and then finished them off with a Matte clear coat.

Fab- The decals hold up fine. They were designed for this application. Your stencil looks great, though. Some of the OEM calipers have decals, some are silkscreened.

Don- Sounds like you got the help you needed. Started the post, went out and pruned three Crepe Myrtles, and then finished the post. By then you were set.

This has me wondering, has anyone tried painting the calipers to match the yellow in the shields? I've always thought it was weird that Ferrari used different shades of yellow for these applications.

No shields on mine, so they match perfectly. Would probably not be too much trouble shifting the PPG 84028 to match perfectly for those with shields, but I never thought they were that different in color.

FWIW, years ago I had a Porsche and decided to have the calipers done in red. I spoke to a Porsche factory mechanic asking for recommendations. He told me to do what he did to his car: use high temp BBQ paint, do it yourself and be done in half a day. I did, it worked perfectly. Don't know that I'd do that with a Ferrari, but it did work and never had a problem. Total cost....under $15.

Be vaery carfeul if you have CCM brake rotors, they are not the same as steel and can be compromised by chemicals

You take the calipers off to paint them so rotor material is not a consideration.

Could you mask off around the pistons, surface scuff the existing paint and still do an adequate job rather than have to spend $1500.00?

Why do a half-baked job on the calipers? That price includes them removing and cleaning the calipers, likely subcontracting painting, decaling, and clear-coating, and then reinstalling and bleeding the brakes. If an owner does part of that themselves, the price goes down considerably. Painting my front calipers was $428 at my favorite body/paint shop.
