I'm doing a back to metal respray on my Ferrari 365 BB #17955. The car was born in Dino Mettalizzato, a medium to dark blue metalic, was repainted medium red and since 20 - 25 years ago it's black. I will take it back to the original blue.
My question is: were all BBs painted with satin black lower parts or were some delivered with just one colour?
Is there anyone out there who knows some history of the car? I think it lived in the US until 15 - 25 years ago.

They came both ways, either all one color or with black bottom. I think Alex L. restored his in a similar color.

isn't it rare to not have headrests? Thought that was true of only the first few cars.

Nice car- please post updates often.

Mine is a later car than this and doesn't have headrests. Only the non-adjustable seats do not have headrests, and the adjustable seats appeared around car 150, roughly the #18000 mark. Ferrari didn't make their cars in exact serial number sequence, so saying exactly which car was the change-over is difficult.

@OP - I do have small history nuggets on your car but not on iPad. I will post this later. Nice to hear you're restoring it to the original Dino Blu Met. Gorgeous colour and if I were to keep mine I'd restore her to that colour too (mine also was delivered in that colour).

Great decision, Boxers look unbelievably good in blue.. I would say go with the black boxer paint on the bottom... Either way, will look great when it's done.

Thanks for your advice. Probably go for all blue and then repaint the lower parts in black if I'm not satisfied.
Is there any period pics with the 365 BBs in one colour scheme?

The car will be blue in a month or two. I will give you some swedish BB pics then.

    Regards!

Here is a factory photo of 17185, the very first production 365 GT4 BB, which was also the factory brochure car. This pic was taken in front of the cathedral in the city of Modena. 17185 was also originally painted Blu Dino 106-A-72. Ferrari built a total of 387 units of the 365 GT4 BB, of which 32 were originally painted this color.

    Lars-

You have a beautiful car! You will be very happy with Blu Dino on you car. Here is what Blu Ribot looks like. Not sure how many got this color, but I have not seen any other 365 BBs in blu Ribot. I would go with the black boxer trim as I don't believe there were any early BBs produced with out it. If you decide to go with the boxer trim, make sure it does not get painted inside the door jams.

Blu Ribot is not an original color for a 365 GT4 BB. None of the 387 units was painted Blu Ribot originally.

As for the color Blu Ribot there were three different Blu Ribot paints.

    gene,

that car looks fantastic in that color. you made a great decision to get the 9's on the rear as they are much better looking and provide the better and safer handling.

you can put the originals for councours events and no one is offended :)

My #17511 is fairly early in the production of the 365 BB. When it was advertised by European Vintage Car Company early this year, they sent me photos of what they said were the original seats (replaced with Recaros by the second owner that are in the car now) that clearly show some type of adjustment mechanism as well as headrests. Either the seats in the photos are not original to the car, or the changeover from the non-adjustable seats was more a random use of new stock intermixed with old (which would not be a surprise from Ferrari!). Unfortunately, the "original" seats did not go with the car when it was consigned to RM for their Monterey auction in August.

    Don,

By the way your car was the forth to the last series 1 365 GT4/BB produced in 1974 in red/blk. I wonder when the fixed seat w/out head rests were replaced with the adjustable type w/head rests. The seats in the pictures seem to have perforated leather in as an upper and lower center insert. That would not be original. There are also no holes in the Daytona style inserts as the originals came with. These seats must of been reupholstered at one point...

    Hello, Marcel.

Were there three distinct colors of blu Ribot, or the same color from three different manufacturers and with different codes?

This will be a great help to me in selecting paint color.

    Many thanks.

    Jack.
