My F12 is now registered in Maryland and it's time to remove the annoying Virginia state inspection sticker that is stuck dead center and at the very bottom inside of the front windshield.

I would very much appreciate any advice on removing it in a manner that would not harm anything. I was thinking maybe soaking or heating it and scraping it off with something but concerned about scratching the glass. Anyone have a tried and true method? Thanks.

Buy a razor blade scraper at Home Depot and scrape the decal off being careful not to hit the dash. Use Goof Off to clean the residue.

We have two decals to remove/replace annually in Texas, and it is not a problem. Been doing it for years.

My car came from Virginia. When I got back to N. Carolina, and got my new plate, the first thing I did was remove the VA sticker.

I did exactly what he said. However a couple of additions.

    1) Placed a couple of paper shop rags (thicker than a paper towel) on the dash.
    2) Used another rag with a little bit of Goof Off on it and rub the sticker with it.
    3) Wait a few minutes and then start scraping with a littler pressure. Not too much as if you were to slip, it is right into the dash.
    4) Clean off with Goof off for residue and then with some Stoner Invisible Glass to clean the glass.

Total time should be around 15-20 minutes at most.

    Good luck!!

The state uses a razor blade on a scraper to take it off. Like the others have said that's how and goo gone.

    I use a hot burrito.

    1. Stop in at any 7/11.
    2. Choose your burrito of choice (I like extra spicy) as long as it's sealed in plastic.
    3. Exceed microwave heating instructions by at least 1-2 minutes and on the highest level possible.
    4. Using oven mitts, press said burrito against window decal for about 2 minutes. If all goes as planned and if the decal wasn't too dried out, it should peel right off.
    5. Let burrito cool and if it's not too rubbery, enjoy burrito.

avoid doing this on an extremely cold window. Could be costly.

All great responses. A little scary using a razor on the curved glass. The burrito approach is interesting (localized heat) and tasty. I will try breaking down the adhesive with heat and chemical remover (Goo Gone) prior to scraping. Its also a good idea to wait till its much warmer. Thanks for the replies!

Could also heat it up with a blow dryer or small heat gun then use wd-40 to get residue off if wd accidently gets on your dash it shouldn't hurt it.

I used an Adhesive Remover from Griot's and one of the automotive plastic trim remover tools (Scraper) to be safe. It worked very well.
PS. I'd also recommend throwing a towel over the dash in case anything drips to be on the safe side.

I've removed stickers with my fingernails and WD40 for the leftover goop.

Then reward myself with a tasty burrito for a job well done! :D

I'd skip the goo gone and use 3m all purpose adhesive cleaner. Get it at a local napa. Much better than the thick gooey goo gone.

Use a Plastic Razor Blade. They work well and lessen the chance of damage to you or a vehicle if you slip. Got mine at Advance. (dorman)

You do know a razor blade won't scratch glass, right?

^^^ sure it can/will. Especially if it's not on a flat plane. Unless Ferrari is using sapphire crystal or diamond windshields these days..
