Works exceptionally well: Buy a couple large cans of cheap ground coffee. Put some towels out and dump the coffee on the towels. In time it absorbs the odors. Once removed the coffee smell goes away in time. Old trick. We bought a mini van for my mom years ago. Smelled OK when we bought it. In the months to come it had a bad BO smell. Did the coffee trick and all gone 100%.

we have had to deal with this for kids and dogs....what (finally) worked for us

    1) used a heavy-duty household carpet cleaner....the kind that has the deep water extraction capability; most hand-helds don't have enough suction
    2) lightly soak affected area with Nature's Miracle pet smell remover (we used the kind for cat vomit/et al I think)...you have to let it sit/soak
    3) extract it all....then repeat....and repeat....
    4) we used a powerful ozone generator and let it sit for about 16 hours. I think we got it from Griot's Garage, odor eliminator (chemical mixture)

I've heard coffee works as well, but I hate the smell of coffee in cars

the challenge is how much/how deep it's soaked in. test the Nature's miracle on the carpet under the seat, it worked with no stains on our BMW but left a light stain on our grey GMC carpet

Then, when you've got fresh spots, to start with smudge up as much as possible by dabbing the area using a clean white-colored cotton or paper cloth. Avoid coating the area through scrubbing sideways because this is only going to make the spot to spread out. Then eliminate the spot with Freezing water and after that dry up the area completely using a clean cloth. Continue doing this part as frequently as required. This will care for fresh spots.

For old spots you'll need to first remove any congealed material using a flat spatula or even a spoon, then cleanse along with freezing water and apply using a dry up cloth to eliminate moisture. Likely the spot is still there at this stage. Now, use the Freezing neutral chemical spotter and then leave for around Fifteen minutes. After that cleanse and dry out.

    Hope it helps!

Pour a bottle of Hydrogen Pyroxide on it, then Isopropyl Alcohol to help it evaporate.

Surely using hydrogen peroxide will remove the colour from whatever material you apply it to? So that might not be such a good idea on car upholstery or carpets.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

This is the greatest car detailing thread I have ever read, and that was the greatest post on the greatest car detailing thread I have ever read.

Dr. Werner von Braun would be quite proud.

Perhaps for greater effect, you could substitute some 180 proof Vodka for the IPA - or possibly some powdered pool chlorine followed by an application of engine oil?

I have also heard leaving a dryer sheet (bounce is a major brand) in a closed car for a few nights also will absorb most odors. With vomit it may take more than a few days but it could do the trick. Good luck.

I would eliminate all of the work and buy a new carpet set and a bucket for next time. That way you know the smell is gone for good.

My daughter's friend spilled "Silk" which is a chocolate soy drink in my MB. Smelled worse than a dead body (yes, I've smelled dead bodies before). Nothing, including several steam cleanings got it out. My brother, who worked in the restoration industry recommended "Milgo." One application...gone...all odors. It uses enzymes to destroy the odors (so I am told). I now use it for everything that stinks. It's not very expensive...but it works. BTW: No affiliation with the product.

Spray lemon juice on the area. Thirty plus years in dealerships, I've seen it all. Coffee is OK but not for seafood or vomit, try lemon juice. If you really want to get serious, pull the carpet, power wash, dry in the sun. Next step new carpet.

Sell the car .. if you can. Remember the Seinfeld episode when Jerry couldn't get the smell from the parking attendant's BO out of his car?

I have removed the carpet and the back seat and had both professionally shampooed after a baby niece tossed a gut full of formula.

Not sure about vomit odours, but i once bought a car from a dog owner..... dog smell is probably equally as bad as vomit smell...

Buy a large can of bicarbonate of soda or baking powder and sprinkle it liberally over the carpets.
Brush it in so it gets right into the base of the fibres and sprinkle more on.

Leave overnight or for as long as you can, preferrably a few days, then vacuum it up.

It worked for removing the dog smell and all i could smell after was the proper car smell you should have.

    Hope thats useful mate.

Try Nature's Miracle 3-in-one... available at PetSmart & other pet supply stores (pets do vomit occasionally... I think that's one of the "3" in "3-in-1" :) ).

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode with Jerry's Saab.
