I'm curious- Anyone on here have experience with longer term ownership of a Gallardo to compare to ownership of either a 360 or 430 (similar vintage cars)? How do they hold up? I'm curious if the influence from Audi helps alleviate some issues that crop up with Ferraris (exhaust/cat issues, any electrical issues, convertible top operation, transmission, etc)? I feel the Ferrari is more special in its construction- just a random example, the HVAC controls don't look like they are from an A6 (although the audi parts probably don't get sticky/gooey ;) ), the interiors just seem more special/hand made in the Ferrari etc

Somewhat related, does the Gallardo have enough "audi DNA" that people/the market wouldn't scoff at one with 50K miles the way they would a 360/430 with the same miles?

Finally, overall are ownership costs/maintenance lower for a Gallardo than a 360/430? How do: (a) the labor required for mechanical work and (b) parts cost compare?

Not really trying to make this a Ferrari vs Lamborghini debate, but just trying to assess the running costs and how well the Gallardos hold up 10+ years on.

I think you posted this in wrong section . I know a little about Gallardo and I've seen higher miles cars as of late . Early 2004 had issues and e-gear was improved in 2006 .

If you are seriously concerning one ...Lamborghini forums will be best source for information

That is true (actually just posted to a Lambo forum as well)- there are many folks on here that have had many cars & figured I'd see if anyone had comments that either owned both or simply have knowledge of both cars. On one hand they are different cars, on the other they are both special cars, and in a similar price range..

Respectfully, I don't think you're going to get any responses very different from what you'd get from a Google search. It's a frequently asked question, usually inconclusive.
Some believe the 09+ gallardos would be more reliable due to the greater Audi content than the earlier models. But very YMMV, and stories both positive and negative for each marque are common.
I think they're all great cars. One just has to speak to you more than the other.
IMO a Lambo attracts more attention than almost anything else. That may or may not be a good thing,

Agreed. I don't think you're going to find your answer here. Most of us tend to favor one or the other marque.

I have never considered owning a Lamborghini. No disrespect for any fans or owners. Just my .02. My opinion matters little.

Guy I knew had an 05' stick. Said it was rock solid reliable. Almost too reliable.. naturally he sold it to buy a 355...

Now that is funny! Then again, I sold a bullet proof aircooled 911 to get a 360 (maint costs increased by a factor of 10x :)) than sold that to get a 355 (cost a lot of $ for me to get it set up right/to my standards)...then again if it was all about reliability vs. soul I'd have a stickshift Corolla as my weekend toy :) I do miss the 360 and think about going back to one someday (but a spider this time) but still having lots of enjoyment with the 355 which is a different experience- I really need both cars to satisfy my urge!

I have to admit to you all (please go easy on me), but this is the lambo that made me want to start this thread- yellow, stick, perfect setup w/exhaust, rims etc- miles are "higher", but maybe just compared to a ferrari of the same year... Surfing the net is dangerous...

FWIW - I had a walking tour of the Lamborghini factory, seeing the cars made and put together. I thought the Audi-Lamborghini cars were vastly superior in quality! Some of it is economies of scale. Doesn't mean they will last longer, be more reliable, or cost less over time. I just thought the parts were better made, better welded, better machined. I would expect the electronics to be better also. They have a large "family". When driving a superleggera at Amelia Island, the Lamborghini rep. said the control electronics come from the VW group and Lamborghini customizes the interface so they all look unique amongst the brands. Which is probably a good thing.

Being a new Ferrari owner, it appears that the electronics are not a refined as one finds in a similar era BMW - economies of scale.

It has less to do with the name on the car than who the previous drivers have been.

There are several recent threads devoted to Gallardos with catastrophic failures. Read and learn.

It is funny that I just read an article about Ferrari vs Lambo. Obviously Ferraris are so far more produced than Lambos... Do we see Lambo's in F-1?

From my car dealer friend said Gallardo is a bit better but Murci is a nightmare. Overall, Ferrari sell much more than Lambos. Demand is higher and even used car prices are higher if you want to compare an apple to apple. my 2 cents... I almost pulled a trigger for a Gallardo Spyder but my youngest son said... "Dad, Lambos might look more like a space ship that grabs attention. But do you see them in racing or anywhere else?" "Dad, Ferrari has a full of history and they are still making history" My case closed there.

It is totally personal preference which car you would like to drive. I wouldn't mind having 3 Ferraris and 2 Lambos in my garage but I would always look for a Ferrari first. Gallardo's interior especially A/C unit and others looked just like my S8....

What do I know? I am a Ferrari fan, have one and thinking about adding another one.

I don't personally care too much about f-1 as it relates to my car, anymore than I care if my wife's car brand is represented in NASCAR, as I don't think any of it corresponds well to the cars made for the street.

I bought an '06 Gallardo Spider in '08 (800 miles on the clock) which has been bullet proof. Zero problems and I still have the car.

    I've had an '00 360 (sold), an '07 430 (sold) and currently have a 16M.

No problems with any of the above cars and I drive them all the time.

I believe the 2006 and later cars had significant ungrades to the transmission and other mechanicals.

I've had my 04 Gallardo for 3 years. I've had to replace the thermocouple sensor ECU (~$1000), eGear connector block (~$200) and front main seal ($30). I bought the car with 9,000 miles and think it has 13,000 now. I'd say the car is solid but like any Ferrari the service records show some expensive bills. I don't fear any major issues however. One of my best friends is a former Lambo tech and I'm sure you could pick his brain if you needed to.

As you know I've also owned a 360 and a 355. In 2 years/ 5,000 miles nothing went wrong with the 360 and we both know 355's are a whole different story.

I'm happy to talk if you'd like. I guarantee you won't go through the experience you've had with your yellow car.
