I'm looking into a 599 and wanted to see what is the reality of owning the car past the upfront cost. So could owners please chime in on their experiences?

    thank you

I've had my '10 HGTE for about 10 months. No repairs, no issues of consequence.

"...many of you really want to know about owning a 599 for 10 months - namely how much it actually cost. "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!"

Chris Harris bought into a 599 about a year ago...

    In two years...

    Two tires @ $550 each
One year service: $1200 or so
    Two year service: $2000

Other than that? Gas isn't cheap LOL

I am not sure why he had all those problems.

How come in 2 years you had to change tires? How many miles you put on the car? And how is the 1 year service different from 2 years that it is 800 more? Also still no one has answered my question anywhere that if you buy a ferrari that is already out of warranty can you get an extended one?

Depends on the age and kms.

    2007 - 2008 cars can expect the following maintenance items;

    1) New battery.
    2) New tyre pressure sensors.
    3) A clutch depending on Km and how it is driven.
    4) Brakes depending on Km and how it is driven.
    5) Ball Joints - they are big bucks too!

Aside from this these cars are bullet proof!!

Why change tires? Both got punctured :)
The two year service is more because it involves more. Specifically changing gearbox oil and brake fluid flush.

With carbon ceramic brakes, unless you track the car, you won't need to change them.
In regards to clutch, if you drive in auto you will have a concern, otherwise I've yet to hear of a 599 needing a new clutch.

You can buy an extended warranty, but as long as a PPI is done, I don't see the need for one.

Mine needed a new radiator at 24000 miles, cost over £4000 ($6000), so the warranty is worthwhile!

Yea I know about CC brake benefits. How come if you drive in auto (which I doubt I'd do but maybe rarely) does it cause a problem?

So that means if I get say a 2004 ferrari and take it to my local dealer and they do a PPI then they will allow me to get an extended factory warranty on it? How long are these warranties and how much do they cost? Also can you purchase a maintenance plan?

I've been curious about this because there are a lot of guys here buying ferraris 7-10+ years older and I am wondering what do they do if stuff breaks? They pay out of pocket every time? That gets really expensive really quickly for a lot of people who said they have to make a lot of life style changes just to afford the car.

Noticed temps were up one day, went straight home. When I checked, pinhole had developed in top corner of radiator, just in front of the lower grill of the car! Corrosion.

It was nasty, but at least I caught it early

Good info here. How much are the ball joints installed? 599 is probably my next stop, this year or next.

Excellent thread and my first post here. I'm very interested in acquiring a 599 and am currently studying what everyone has to say about them. There are horror stories on every marque and every brand and it spooks a lot of people. I currently have an Aston Martin Vantage, and every one of my car pals said "You won't be able to afford the maintenance" and "It's British!" Now, after a year and a half of ownership its proven to be every bit as reliable as any other modern day car, though parts are most costly (but not obscenely so). From what I gather reading here on FerrariChat, the 599 is not problematic and there is no particular model year to avoid....keep the good info coming.

    My Vantage...but its not a 599!

Any additional maintenance or things to look out for in terms of service/maintenant issues for a GTO compared to a standard 599?

unfortunately i did not have a warranty. given the $7k repair four months in, perhaps that was a mistake. (i say perhaps since i recall that 1 year warranty was over $10k).

welcome! i have to say that even in the face of the costly repair, i don't regret the purchase for a second. the joy of driving (and looking at) it has been completely worth it.

Just had 1 year service for my 599 , it cost me $1,400 + $600 for fixing the sticky button , now the Ferrari dealer in Bahrain are dealing with a company in Bahrain that fix these issue like ( nomoresticky.com ) and they are doing great , my brother just fix his 430 and it comes like brand new. Also just had 1 year service for my new 03 Murcielago , it cost me around $2,270 , thats damn cheap if you compare it to MB S600 for example or a cayyene turbo.
