So I am now the proud owner of a 2003 Red on Tan coupe, 6 speed manual. It will be having a full service and belts done prior to delivery. I would like to change the current black brake calipers to Red. Is this a simple matter of painting them or do you recommend purchasing red calipers?

Once I receive the car, I will post pictures.

Yes you can paint them. Just try to find matching decals/stencils for the ferrari text.

Repaint is okay, just that you wont be able to cover all the surfaces, and some times it can be lumpy because the paint will run.

If you plan to get the brake fluids flushed, just have the shop take off the calipers and powder coat them, it will probably be 100 per caliper, 1 hr labor to take off and on, and the cost of a new brake fluid flush job. Will look completely OEM, or even better.

MUCH less expensive to have them painted.

If a repaint is properly done it is not just "okay".

If they are removed, old paint is properly removed, primed and painted they will be perfect.

And of course the correct decal should be added then two coats of clear.

To be fair usually when I hear repaint I think about repainting them while the caliper is still on because that is what a lot of people do when they go with the "Repaint" option.

I'll ask to take them off. I don't want red rotors, just calipers;)

Mike- Have them repainted PPG 75250, Rosso Corsa, have them then put on the decals (2 1/2"-3" long should be about right), and then have them clear coated. Will look just like factory.

Mine after painting. Obviously not red and disregard the little red decals.

Congratulations, now you can move on to the enjoyment part of ownership and give that poor dealership some R&R time!

Taz: That's wicked good result - what does "billet ceramic" stand for regading your brakes?

Spilled break fluid will immediately "eat" paint !!! Better powdercoat it

"Properly done" is going to cost you more than you need to spend . Mask it off good and you won't have to worry about overspray on other parts . Nobody is going to stick their heads between wheel spokes to see if you "properly" painted them...unless you are showing at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este....LOL

Maybe because powdercoating means that you have to unassembled the complete caliper....bushings , grommets...everything !

clean the OEM caliper , repaint , add decals and throw on some clear and bingo , you are done !

Yup, normal car paint works great. Brake fluid has not been an issue. This is what the clear coat over the decals does for you. Powder-coating cooks the caliper (and seals).

My calipers are Mov'Its for their CER ceramic rotors, 396 mm F, 362 mm R.

I "think" my red calipers were an option when the car was purchased. I'm not sure about that as my car had several owners. The guy that sold it to me said he "thought" it was a Ferrari option, and probably wasn't cheap. At any rate they're SPECTACULAR!

Taz, that Yellow looks spot on perfect.. Very nice work man! Would you mind sharing the color code as I'd love to refinish my calipers like that. Are the decals available somewhere in the correct size? My plan was to try to find a specialty shop to send my calipers off to do the work.. Anyone know of a place that specializes in this type of thing?

If you might consider sending them overseas: BCS (Brake Caliper Specialsts), in GB.
They also provide complete rebuild services incl upgraded stainless pistons from HE.
