Hi everyone, Very excited to finally (hopefully!) get my hands on a 246 GT (1148) I acquired a few months ago in the next few days. This is my first classic per se, so I was wondering what you guys use for oil in your cars - 10w-40? 20W-50? Semi synthetic? I drive in a hot climate year round. Also, what quality fuel do you use? 98 or 95? Thanks a lot everyone.
Modern oils are so much better today than in the 60's and 70's. I use Shell Rotella for pre catalyst diesel applications as it has more zddp additive to help with camshaft wear. Valvoline VR1 is a high content zddp oil as well, available in a number of viscosities. 20w50 should be fine in a warm weather climate. I use Shell Premium grade fuel in all of my cars because it's one of the only fuels that doesn't have ethanol added. (I'm in canada). Enjoy your Dino, it's a fantastic car. Its a subjective question really but the a good quality 20w 50 oil is more than adequate. Dont get fixated on the "higher" ZDDP content as this is generally a sales pitch to think you are getting more protection for your engine. Millers high performance Classic car oil 20w / 50 Shell V power Fuel, as higher octane you can without Ethanol additives is the best Tony
Joe Gibbs Driven HR-1 Conventional Oil Not subject to street oil limits, so has more ZDDP https://www.drivenracingoil.com/hr1-15w-50-conventional-hot-rod-oil.html When Pierce Manifolds rebuilt my Weber Carbs they included a bottle of CARB DEFENDER in the shipment. I called Mike and he said they think it is a great product to keep gum & varnish off carbs, so I bought a case from Summit https://www.drivenracingoil.com/carb-defender-ethanol-fuel-additive-8-oz-1.html
