According to the limited info on Manheim, the $70k car sold in Chicago. This was an 04 leased vehicle with 7,480 miles, Yellow in color, and listed as below average condition. The next car up sold for $96.5k in Fl. Black car with 15k miles, also listed as below average condition and was not listed as a leased car. Both cars were e-gear cars.

The cheapest average condition car was a black manual trans car with 13k miles, sold in Ft. Wayne for $107k.

MMR doesn't determine the market. We can't see these cars, whether they're serviced, wrecked, etc etc...I guarantee that one that sold for 70k definetly had a story behind it. The market is soft, but not that soft.

Manheim does not report on vehicles that ran and don't sell on the auction block either. Many times, sellers and buyers will agree to a price outside the auction block after the car runs. The times I've been to the auction block, I've seen cars get bid up pretty high but the reserve does not get met. At those figures, the cars were also a great price. For example, I went to the Highline Auction in Vegas about 6 months back, a DB9 ran through the block, 4k miles, 05, real clean, got up to $129k and the seller did not sell it. Even at $129k (which was a good figure), the car did not hit the manheim database, same auction, an 05 DB9 with 8k miles, obvious paintwork, check engine light, etc sold for $105k. The car gets reported. A 15k difference between a story and non story car (and ofcourse 4k miles as well). Just my .02 cents :D

I agree as well. There is an inherent selection bias when it comes to the cars sold through Manheim--the above example illustrates this well. Also keep in mind you're more likely to see multi-owner, painted on cars, with no service records run through an auction. The one owner, well documented vehicles stay on as retail cars.

Where to start? I had a friend in IL check the car out for me before it went on the block. Salvage title, bodywork was terrible, paint on the front end "looks like it was done with a spray can", tires shot, ck engine and airbag light was on.

Market values on these cars are $110-$115k. Auction cars are crap cars in my opinion. Cars dealers couldn't sell because of issues, cars that are yellow with blue and yellow interior. Auction cars are for people who want a nice car but are willing to take sacrifices on condition, quality or bad color combos.

100% true. Auction cars are often a vehicle which a dealer couldn't sell on his lot retail, or he took in on trade and wants to unload it because he doesn't WANT it on his lot. You think a high end dealership wants to sell a salvage car? Course not... but they will take anything on trade to get a deal done, and they just unload it at the auction.

Though this doesn't always hold true on cars sold directly from GM/FORD/leasing companies/finance companies, etc in which they are off-lease, reposessed, or fleet vehicles. Then again, you don't really see Lambo doing any of those things!

Exactly, real buyers that buy clean cars pay more for a better car. Always true that you get what you pay for.

Well I drove to MD with my Mechanic to check out the car, had Algar run a carfax for me, and get service records from Lamborghini of Washington, I am happy with the car, and the price, and my wife would have killed me if I brought home a yellow, orange, or lime green car.

absolutely correct...theres lots of L-cars that were rentals out there but quite often the cheap prices are from the dealer buying the car back when there was nobody bidding near what they wanted to sell it for. i get offered many Lambos at what i feel are bargain prices on a weekly basis...real no problem cars with all the books and records...free shipping even!!!
