Hi there, I have a few small paint chips on the vertical surfaces of the rear diffuser on my Italia. It's non-carbon, i.e. a mid gray. I've heard it called titanium gray. Does anyone happen to have a paint code for that part please? Lots of searching has yielded nothing. Many thanks!
Just had mine replaced. It comes in primer color and are painted. Check with a high end body shop in your area and they can color match the paint. Since the diffusers are frequently damaged your dealer should be able to paint you in the right direction here.
Many thanks. I just need to dab a few tiny spots, and wanted to order some paint along with a larger order of paints for my cars. I'll call FCI in Greensboro in the morning, as they successfully did some chip touchups for me before.
Ferrari is not like a normal car dealership in which you can go in and get a tube of touch up paint in your particular color. RCorsa's suggestion is a good one. Go and have a good paint shop computer match it and either have them refinish the diffuser or give you a jar of touch up, or both.
I have a 2013 458 and used Dupli-Color auto spray for my diffuser. sprayed a little in the top and put it on with a brush for small areas. They call it DS104 Universal flat black. Dupli - Color Products Co. Cleveland OH 44115 Dupli-Color :: Home Peter Vero Beach Fl.
Thank you. I'm surprised that flat black works. My diffuser, on a 2012 Rosso Fiorano Italia, looks gray. I wonder if diffuser colors vary between years and/or body colors?
My Speciale came with a carbon diffuser, even though I didn't order it. I got my clearbra guy to cover the vanes with XPEL.
FYI, in case anyone else finds this thread via search: it seems that there is no paint code. FCI told me that they do a color match on each diffuser and mix up the paint accordingly. To Noblesse Oblige's point: it seems that only a few dealerships sell Ferrari touch-up paint, and it's not clear where it comes from. I contacted Dr. Colorchip, who have been mentioned positively on some F-car forums, and they added Rosso Fiorano to their web site after I asked about it. They use the paint code off the car (on the sticker inside the frunk hood on a 458). If you Google for your color, you'll find at least a couple of other traditional touch-up paint suppliers online; Dr. Colorchip is, ahem, mostly for chips, and has a unique paint/solvent two-step process.
This is a great topic. Have many clear coated their rear diffuser with 3M or XPEL? If so, has been successful?
I put this same message in another thread but maybe useful here: Repairing a diffuser fin with a small scratch only runs about $100 and buying a new one and painting is around $400 so the cost of applying xpel and installing tiny little edges seams silly. The film won't protect the fins from scratches if bottoming out anyway. As far as the diffuser itself it might be worth it if you ordered a carbon one. To install I'm sure they would have to remove it and all the fins then add the fins back on or else you would have way too many seams. A good shop that works with a body shop should be able to do this. As I mentioned above, my installer actually had the body shop remove the shields to install the film to prevent the dirty seam issues and it looks amazing.
+1 458 rear diffusers, esp. the fins are very prone to damage since the latter's clearance from the asphalt is rather minute. I would go to a dealer to save yourself time, my dealer repainted my diffuser and fins twice. best
I too have one very, very small chip that bugs me when looking at the rear of my car and would like to find the correct color to touch it up.
First day I drove my 458 I was backing up and scraped my rear diffuser on a curb Figures Wasn't real happy, but some black touch up paint 'cured' the issue
Red cars have the dark gray matte diffuser color. Most other color cars have matte black diffusers. Did anyone come up with a paint code or equivalent touch-up paint that works for the matte dark gray diffusers?
I don't have a 458 (yet), but on my 08 430, I had the dealer mix up some touch up paint. But prior to that I found that Dupli-Color Storm Gray Met (14 WA391E) is a perfect match. I simply bought some at the local AutoZone. It is a GM color but it worked great touching up small chips. Hope this helps. Tony
I have the matte black diffuser on my Speciale, I've found that high heat bar-b-que spray paint was an exact match. I spray the paint into a small container, and use a small paint brush to touch up any chips. I also have the leading edges of the diffuser fins covered with Xpel. It has saved me on one occasion where I rubbed on an unusually large speed bump. The front lift saved me on the front end, but the rear diffuser fins rubbed on the back. I simply peeled off the heavy layer Xpel film, and had new film attached. It only cost $20.00 to put new film on the leading edges.
I looked at my diffusers, had a small scrape on one of them, on the bottom. News to me. A black sharpie pen made it invisible. Life is short.
