Hello together, I'm trying to identify following cars, as I was not able, to find out their Serial Number, or their Correct Type. Maybe someone knows something more. I've heard, that in England, some cars were recreated, Some information, would be nice. thats easy: Tipo 26 #2512 Tipo 26 -replica- 8CM #3006 Tipo 26 (blue) claims to be #2523 Tipo 26 -replica- Ciao! Walter
Thank you Walter for your Reply. Interesting, that the Tipo 26 M Replica did the MM and Goodwood Festival. The last Picture could it be the same car, which is build around Engine #13? The Pictures from #2512, which I have, are looking like a different Car. Found another mystery Car. Regards Jörg Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The 2nd photo shows #2519, one of the 3 best Tipo 26 today! About the other car(s) that drove in Goodwood (accepts replicas!) and the MM: all cars made by Peter Shaw have more or less some original parts fitted, so....! Don`t know if the 1st and 2nd photo shows the same car. Ciao! Walter
#2512 got the body of #3002 that Cameron Millar kept when he sold the car fitted with a new body to Peter Kaus. The current owner of #2512 bought this original body for the restoration of his car as it had lost its genuine coachwork when it was the "Appelton Special" in the UK in the late 30ies. Ciao! Walter
Ir's fascinating, to hear something about these Cars. You can hardly find information of Maserati, from the beginning, til the early 50th. Sadly, that only a few survived, being such wonderful cars. The oldest survivor is the Biscaretti Tipo 26. Is there a chance, you can post some Pictures of the cars, like you did with the Zagato Cars? Would be a shame, that People will forget these most remarkable Cars. Are there any surviving Diattos? Regards Jörg
Please keep in mind that Maserati most likely re-numbered their T26`s! I am not the only one who believes that they in fact build less cars than numbers listed as some cars for sure have 2 identities! The T26-history is fascinating but very complicated and complex! Wonderful cars with a fantastic aura - but too old for most of the Maserati enthusiasts! No Diatto in GP-specs survived! Ciao! Walter

2. yes, I have to correct myself. Its the ex-Sutherland 8C-3000! But many many parts and components never saw the factory,......! 4. the owner of the car claimes 2 chassisnumbers for his car: 1510 and 2523. This is not unusual as Maserati very often re-numbered the T26`s when they had been refreshed and/or sold. Ciao! Walter
2= #2010 3= #2514, one of the best -aka original- T26 today! 4= #2544, more correct is #44". Today in Germany, ex-Whitney Straight, ex-Rubin, ex-Dean Butler, ex-Ainscough 5= "something" ! Very beautifull and offered as "re-creating" by Gregor Fisken in 1999. Today in the US of A.! Ciao! Walter
Dear Walter, Last year I took photos of this Schlumpf Maser, also of the chassisplate inside. It shows 2029? Best Boudewijn Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Boudewijn, a chassis with that no. is not existing. Must be a mistake taken in the resto of the car in the mid-60ies. Factory records list this car correctly as 2010. The car has some resto-mistakes although! No T26 had that rev-counter (it comes from an Alfa Monza!) etc., etc...! Ciao! Walter
I have doubts with Chassis Number 3001 and the second Pic in post 1. Take a look to the Pictures, specially on the Brakes. Don't know the english word, but #3001 has the upper Connection, between the upper Brakeplate and the Chassis. The other Car is missing this. #3001 has some cooling holes in the inside of the brakeplate, the other not. The other has drilled Brakedrums. For me there are two possibilitys, two Cars, or the owner is interchanging brakes. Is this a 6cm driven bye Rodney Felton in Sweden at a historic race meet? Ring Knutstorp 1992. VIN Walter do you know of this sort of Maserati too? Image Unavailable, Please Login
no - not to my knowlewdge! The Castagna-car was later re-bodied to standart 2-seater specs. Ciao! Walter
so is it 3002 that is now sitting in the Louwman Museum? (He did keep a few of the Kaus cars...) I have not yet checked the rear left frame member for a stamp...
Yep - its now with Louwman. Its the car that Birkin drove in Tripolis and what burns his arm leading to his death one week later! Ciao! Walter
"The car has been assembled and completed from an original restoration project kit of parts which had been accumulated over many years during creation of the well-known British Lees Collection" http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/wspd_cgi.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=USA&screen=lotdetailsNoFlash&iSaleItemNo=3938558&iSaleNo=16419&iSaleSectionNo=1 Before and after: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep, the restoration was done by Paul Russell in the US. Much parts are indeed original and had been collected over many years by Mr. Lees in the UK. Those parts together with a 300S-replica-chassis (that was most likely sold to Italy..................!) were auctioned by BONHAMS some years ago. OK, its a replica - but a correct one matching the lines beautifuly of the real thing. Ciao! Walter
ID and some history needed! I just found this superb period shot on Flickr. Title: Ascoli com'era: una Maserati sul Lungo Tronto (1935) Description: Ph. Its a Tipo 26. It needs a little time to find that out the VIN of the car. I`ll try and keep you posted! Ciao! Walter
For my first post on this forum - Hi, guys, good to have been admitted! - I attach some pics taken at Goodwood press day in 1997 of the ex-Whitney Straight 26M, when owned by Dean Butler. I have many thousands of photos which I have taken at historic race meetings and speed events throughout Britain and Europe since the 1970s, and I hope to have the chance to post some of them on here as time goes on.
